Hope you are ok Pah. (((hugs)))
  • Pops some news to interest you, though it's not general knowledge yet. Planned opening date for Ald* is November 8th.

Makes sense, as it's a Thursday ( for Thursday specials) . Some staff are moving from B.A. store as well as new local recruits, so we will have plenty of experienced hands. That's good, as I imagine the store will be very, very busy.

Unfortunately for me and the trike, I think the bike racks will be at the far end of the car park and not near the store. I can manage heavy bags fine, lifting is no problem, but I now can't walk without my stick in one hand. I may go when the store is quiet, park nearer the door and hope the staff understand. DD says this happens at the BA store.

Thank you, I was wondering but I could see how it is coming on with the shopfiiters in.

That is good and makes sense having people of the town working lockally and saving on travel costs and also saving them travel time and as you say, good for us.

    I do hope so...

My trouble is I have wanted Aldi here so much but I have such a good store of food I will have to get through that and build the store up again so initially may not be there as much as I might've but I will watch the specials:)

Then again I could eat what I have stored and buy new goods to replace what I am using. I am sure that it will do well.

That's what I do pops. Just because I had a pantry of basics doesn't mean I stop buying food, it just means I replace like for like when I use it. I have a list of things I've taken on the door and know to buy them when I do the monthly shop.

I am waiting for the week they have the ski wear on special, normally first week in January, I get the girls next winter coats then, next size up. They are decent too as I've never heard them say they're cold in winter ;)

People may say "Why?" but perhaps 6-8 weeks ago I got a coat at the CS 99p a good as new(padded)lots of pockets I think it has a hood too. I think they are called a "Parker" what do I know...today same CS different colour same price another "Parker" so I purchased it.

They have more suit type jackets so may get a few in. Don't know if I can shorten the sleeves myself to save money(might be able to use that wunderweb stuff)seems a pity to pay lots more in having them altered when they only cost 99p. Will have to move the buttons further back.

I could do with some ties TBH.

Good luck with the Ski outfits. I suppose eventually if you get up to speed with the specials eventually many will be repeated. It is interesting to see what the Lidl's and Aldi's sell in their stores in other countries, there is a difference.

If Aldi's on our town is decent I may have no reason to travel out of town...

Good idea about making a list.

Just thinking about what to do for a meal tomorrow...think I'll slice some leeks and onions, dice some carrot, potato, turnip may add some cauliflower and brocali but not sure what esle to do with the vegetables...I have some Quorn chicken pieces so that could be added. I suppose I could add gravy and do a sort of casserole. I could do more but I'm just doing too much for one person probably otherwise I could have had a go at doing dumplings. Will use the Slow Cooker probably.

May look on the web and see if there are any ideas...

I'm very interested in all this talk about weight loss. It's my specialist subject if I ever get on to mastermind.
I was an overweight baby (my father's first comment on seeing me was, "She'll never be able to wear silk stockings with those legs!") and I've been fighting fat all my life. In my lifetime I must have lost literally tons of weight and put it on again. I also had good results with LC diets. Before I was married I used to eat mostly LC food. Anyone remember Energen products? The rolls tasted like polystyrene. I find it harder as I've got older, but I'm 4x1/2 stones too much at the moment and on a 5ft2ins frame that's not a good look. Let's just say Byatt that if I took to the streets I might make enough for a second hand black and white TV.

If some of you are giving it a go and reverting to LC I might join you. I do remember in the past mixing cottage cheese with marmite and eating with a spoon. Not sure I could face that again.

Right, i'm off to bed now. Be good and eat your greens.

    PAH hope you are OK.

, happy belated birthday to you xxx.

Mardatha, hope you are feeling less tired soon.

Quick question - I have bought two new waterproof coats today (knock-down price at TK Maxx). I need three coats because I walk the dogs twice a day and cycle to work so if we have torrential rain they don't have time to dry out. I have kept one old one. The two old ones I am replacing are about four years old and in spite of re-waterproofing in special stuff are no longer waterproof around the shoulders and neck. They are waiting to go in the bin but I'm wondering if anyone can think of any use for some of the material, for instance the back of the coats? The dogs already have their own gortex coats (absolutely worth every penny I spent on them, still as good as new even after three years!) so I can't use them for that.

Ooh - actually - brainwave - do you think it would be possible to make mittens out of them to cover my gloves when I am cycling in the rain? If anyone could point me in the direction of a pattern I would be very grateful. Ooh, another brainwave - a bicycle saddle cover!

I think I shall have to go to bed to recover from these brainwaves!

ETA OOH look, Aldi have a stud detector. http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_26792.htm Oh, sorry, not that kind of stud roflmao ..... no use to me, I bat for t'other side lol!

There must be something that can be done with them you'd have thought. I better not buy any more coats for the minute but there were some waterproof tops in a local shop on town for £6. Should I come up with any ideas I'll post them.

I think the CS may be starting to get more clothes in more suitable for Winter wear. Tesco's had some Mens Lambswool jumpers(they were nice)but £20. They do seem to have a big department for Ladies Fashionware.

Generally most of my money is spent on food.

Smileyt, you are full of inspiration tonight, I have to make Oh some kind of waterproof wheelchair blanket so can follow your lead and cut up an old coat - lightbulb moment smiley!

I will have you know Pops I have been out this Saturday :D we took DGs for a drive up the motorway to get him to sleep - not very O/S I know but any of you with children on the autistic scale will know how hard it is to get them to sleep.Total failure, in the end shared curry and chips with him, and he took himself off to bed and fell asleep in minutes. I will have you know he may be only 2 1/2 but he loves spicy food and curry is full of iron  When I think only 4 years ago my Saturday nights were spent at rock concerts, parties and pubs :(

Ginny if he enjoys spicy curry he will probably love really smelly cheese too - its a sensory thing, one of groups boys will do anything for the grossest cheese you can buy. Whereas my DS cant even be near the smell of mild curry. :)
  • My auntie had an elderly Jack Russell many years ago (well actually he was more my cousin's dog by inclination). He had been a hunting dog in his 'youf' and when he got to be elderly and grumpy, although truth be told he was always grumpy, he refused point blank to wear a dog coat even though he really needed the extra layer. My auntie took my cousin's old barbour jacket and made a dog coat which said grumpy JR wore with considerable pride for his remaining years whilst getting older, smellier and more grumpy - but his coat, well it smelt of his glory days didn't it! He was a grumpy little so and so but he was always that little bit bigger when he had his coat on, not so daft our dogs, are they?
