Sounds like a plan Byatt If it wasn't for he who knows nowt I'd get rid of ours too.

Did you managed to get the log burner working Byatt?
  • Evening all.

Belated birthday wishes Kidcat - hope you get a good day soon and you can declare it an un-birthday!

Thank goodness we rent our washer - the blinking thing gave up the ghost today and has popped 2 fuses - no idea what's up with it but hopefully the washer man will be out to see it at the beginning of the week. Had done one wash already - thankfully the one with OH's work gear in as the rest of us can just wear anything - but unfortunately it went mid cycle so I ended up treading the washing in the bath to finish it up, typically there were a couple of the nice new bath towels in there which were a beggar to squeeze out, was asking the universe why it couldn't have been the old thin ones that would have been much easier - think it must e someone's law or something!

OH now has his suit for the wedding and he looks very handsome in it! His mum and brother convinced him to go for a light grey that looks very dashing.

PAH - hope you ok and no need to worry, we always like to hear from you.

Hugs to anyone else who needs one.

Those tins of sweets are handy tho..I have to buy for quite a lot of helpers/escorts/drivers etc for the boys so it saves me a fortune I've ordered 8 tins just for them plus I always send one into the cab firm :o they are all wonderful though so I like to let them know we appreciate all their help throughout the year.

The swizzels @ a pound a throw will help for halloween too we bought 10 bags last year and just about managed to eke them out!

I got a spare advent calender for Rosiedog in the sales Fuddle and she has a treat put in there each day too glad I'm not the only one who does it!
I cross stitched a stocking each for the animals too to match ours *not spoilt really!!*:D

Pooky - that's very strange about the PCOS as when I was regularly on a LC forum a number of the ladies were specifically doing the diet to help with PCOS.

Byatt, tbh we don't eat that many chips! Certainly not when frying, just the odd one to test ;).

I did retry LC after my hysterectomy, and it just did not work at all. If I could get myself sorted, I would like to try again, but I need to really be motivated to do it as it means cooking two separate meals all the time.

If you're a PCOS sufferer then they advise a low carb diet to ease symptoms and obviously to help loose the weight that PCOS often brings but I just can't find the balance, if I don't eat carbs or go to low then my hormones kick off, my body goes into shut down mode and I end up in bed for days with no energy.

It's just easier for me to have carbs and cope with life than to cut them down or out and suffer bouts of exhaustion.

monnagran - We lived on a hill too when the offspring were little. I had a big black Marmet pram, and would push it up the hill with the baby inside, her sister (16 months older) on the pram seat on top (remember them?), and, a 3 year old twin hanging on the handle at each side! And they did hang! Don't know how we ever managed. No car, not on a bus route - just had to get on with it!

Oh, and when no. 3 was born the twins were 20 months, so my DH converted a pram seat so they could sit back to back, so I was pushing the three of them up the hill until the first two could walk a bit better.

I was only telling my sons earlier that my old pram was big enough that I sat on the toddler seat when nearly 3 when my brother was a baby. Old prams were better than modern ones...

I love both your signatures Molly :)

Yes, my grandad was a Miner and I grew up in a mining village that seriously lost it's way when the mines closed. The worst effects were the social effects. The place has changed drastically from when I was a kid. They say the same in the village I live in now, that it's changed and not so nice place to live anymore. Many don't have any respect for themselves round here and that makes it difficult to live amongst because it means things like they swear in front of your children, they let their dogs foul outside the school, they drop their litter where ever they please and go to the Coop in their pj's.

There's the argument that socially it low because of a lack of jobs and people don't have much money. 30 years ago I think that argument stands but right now people round here can't be arrised to go get a job, don't need to get a job and don't want to get a job.

People who have little money should not be tarred with the bone idle people's brush. Each and everyone of us on here is counting our pennies but I can tell that we all have respect for ourselves and the area we live in. There's a massive difference. The benefit system has created a section of our society that goes against every chord of the lowest of the low - working class. (I can say that, I'm working class through and through, and damn proud especially when I learn about how my people coped and survived in the early 1900's)

eeek, I may have been a bit confrontational with my views there. Please just ignore me this chilly but sunny Saturday morning. I was rudely awakened by an escapee dog and can hear my little ones bickering. I think I need a morning cuppa x

Edit: gawd, I'm not saying everyone on benefits is those people. oI love that we have a benefit system, I had to use the benefits system myself. i think we should be so proud we have a system that helps our frail and needy. What I'm saying is that because the system is there it gets abused and relied upon when really, maybe, probably some people could get themselves work and gain a little self respect because of it. So sorry. I wish I hadn't said anything now

Don't regret what you said! My best friend works in a school where
Too many of the children have no idea about work or why anyone should work, because so many of the families have never worked but still seem to have everything every want.
I'm having a quiet morning, the kids are away with DH swimming so I'm getting some computer time. I'm feeling a bit low - I'm a bit of a yoyo dieter and before I can lose weight I have to get really down about it. I've started a diet everyday this week and broken it about lunchtime. I know what I need to do and how to lose the weight - it's the motivation to do it. I have clothes in sizes 10 to 16 (I'm very small so any extra weight is very noticeable) in the house and will wear all of them throughout a year. Why can't I just lose the weight and keep it off?

Sorry for that moan. I had no-one else to tell. DH always practical just says "maybe you should exercise" but I just want to moan and get it off my chest.

Hope everyone has a nice sunny and relaxed Saturday

I find my weight & ability to think about controlling my calorie intake varies according to my cycle - is it the wrong time of the month for you to try to diet?

That's a shame, I guess we all have different metabolisms and some need different things to function (I know I can happily live with barely any carbs at all). That's why I get so cross when medical people write off different solutions and promote only one way to lose weight - we are not all the same!

No, I haven't had it swept yet and checked, but when I get paid for this gig will get it done. I have a few logs already! Actually glad you reminded me as it will be like a mini aga. :D Happines is Aga shaped. :rotfl:

Mrs C thanks for all the ideas, the mince one sounds lush. The Diabetes UK site has a forum which gives some great LC ideas and recipes. There is usually an argument going on as to whether LC work, but for those where it does, it's amazing. Like you say, we are all different.

Pooky, it could be the LC withdrawal symptoms that make you feel worse and if you can weather it out, you may feel better. I allowed about 2 weeks to get through the withdrawal, and tiredness etc is common. I think it's called LC flu!
  • BYATT - you won't regret getting the woodburner sorted out, it really is better than the tele and so much more useful. Mind you, it is impossible to go anywhere ever again without having an eye out for possible wood supplies - we still have a goodly portion of the decking from the pub when they had it replaced, and He who knows has no shame, he even blagged the wooden cradles from the gas board chappies who were putting in a new pipeline, to the point where they were delivering them on to the drive in their dumper truck!!!!! Then there is our lovely builder who has turned up now and then with a van load for us to 'take our pick' from, new hobby methinks!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.(and Docky too!!!!!)

That's exactly it Byatt, if it works for you it's brilliant. Such a shame that so many people will not even consider LC because of the negative publicity - I think an awful lot of those people on meds for type II diabetes could control it by cutting their carb intake. The diet my mum was given was full of the worst sort of carbs for someone who was insulin resistant - so she ended up on very large doses of medication which ruined her health.
