Pooky - Well done to your DD! :j

Not getting far with OH's work. He's currently earning in 4 weeks what he used to earn in 1 week at his last job :( I was feeling very down last night and even had to take my sleeping tablets for the first time in months just to get some rest. Oh well, I remain positive that something better will come up, he's applying for jobs left right and centre. Feeling a bit more upbeat today, maybe it's the sunshine!

I know exactly how you feel. Something will turn up soon.
DH has to do more psychometric tests this weekend so I need to get the children out of the house for a couple of hours tomorrow. And he has an interview on Monday. I would say fingers crossed but I feel like I've had my fingers permanently crossed and it's made not a blind bit of difference.

I remember in the 50's we had daily doses of Cod Liver Oil and Malt, not sure if that was a government thing like the orange juice etc we used to get sometimes, to improve the nation's health? I think Virol was a brand name of similar stuff but the big jars we had were just labelled 'Cod Liver Oil and Malt'. I'm the youngest of a large family and we would all line up for a large spoonful :D

I have a spoon full every day :D its stops the pain in my knee joint. I buy it in boots when it's on 342. I love the taste, I could eat a jar in a day:o

I know that I lost Mum to Cancer but Cod Liver Oil was about the only vitamin type product she believed in and took regularly. Then again I had an Auntie who made it to 104(stayed in her own home until she was 97)and she took it every day.

They took it capsule form but I don't think that I have heard of CLO and malt. And from what you say it is available more like a paste.

Good luck to your DH for the interview, I will have my fingers crossed too :)

Horlicks is malt isn't it? I used to get a horlicks every night as a kid. It's something I've continued but only in the colder months... now I know why lol

You're right...I never got away with Horlicks/Ovaltine...but this is quite interesting...

Then again we have Malt Whisky;)

Some versions of this Malt Extract are less expensive than others...and it is available in some chemists but certainly health shops...

I am feeling sorry for myself today as I have my first lot of lurgy of the cold season.

I was at the charity shop again yesterday morning and nearly walked out when I got there. I spent hours last week sorting out all the books, only to be told yesterday that one of the area managers had been in and said that we have too many books out and I had to reduce them by 4 shelves worth.

Hope you soon feel well SDG. I can understand you feeling as you do. I'd have thought "Cheap" books would be a big seller or might get customers in and whilst there they might go away with something else.

Id like to buy more but what is holding me back is knowing my income will be very tight soon and if I do move will I have room to take them with me thus I'll be buying items that I will have to get rid of.

Am feeling really tired and woozy today but thankfully the swelling has gone down a little, am hoping the pain starts to subside today and I can ditch the pain killers :)

Pops I watched gordon during the night too, and was pleasantly surprised, although my personal bug bear is that every recipe seems to have chilli in it, I cannot stand any hot dishes at all, a very mild chilli con carne is the most I can handle, I am not alone why do chefs not realise this.

Again, hope you feel better soon Kidcat...I watch three or four of his new series but agree what you say and still some ingredients may be budget to him but probably not for some watching but the tips were good and you could adapt some dishes. I agree about spicy food(even though that's a personal thing)

Was the Gordon programme wholesome homecooking?

Some is Fuddle. Funnily enough the live programme on Monday is about...Baking.

Some programmes I did jump through if I thought the dish was too expensive but the following link even if you don't watch online it has a playlist telling you what he is covering in each programme and he does have a couple that are "Cooking On A Budget"
