I bought some soup mix which was reduced in Mr T and add it to all my soups and stews. Yesterday I was looking at the packs in store and realised I was still paying a lot for it and all that was in it was porridge oats, split peas lentils and barley - all of which I have in stock so no more fiddly packets am going to make a jar up ready.
We had excitement on our street today, a lorry driver didnt read the height restrictions on our bridge and his portacabin ended up half on and half off his lorry blocking the entire universe for several hours. luckily no one was hurt as its the route for lots of kiddies to walk home. So after hours of police and local nosey beggars standing looking at it and having many man type discussions my neighbour nipped down told them how to solve it and bobs your auntie normal service resumed.
GQ get well soon hunny and Pooky hope you all get through the next funeral ok.

8oz stale bread

soak the torn up bread in cold water for 15 mins. Squeeze dry. Mix bread and everything else well put into a greased baking tin and cook in a slow oven for 1 and a half hours. sprinkle with sugar to serve. Hope that helps Cheers Lyn x.
Thanks so much for that Lyn., that's the way I'll make it next time - at least I didn't dream about the suet! Made it according to recipe (sans suet) this time and it tasted lovely. Mind, I did add some out-of-date mincemeat and the scrapings from a jar of marmalade.
Damsons - I still have mine, but the swelling's going down now:rotfl:
I shall make jam tomorrow, having 'released' two jars.
GQ: Sorry to hear about the kidney infection, I've had regular bouts of cystitis with blood in the urine. Incredible pain, so sympathies to you. I find drinking loads (especially cranberry juice) is the only way forward, with the anti-bios of course.

What's the weight on those carrots, do you know? We have an Aldi ehere but it's about 25 mins away on the bike and I'm not well enough to get there on my best days. I was thinking of Mum whose Aldi is handy.

Evening all
GQ Have a gentle hug and lots of get well soon wishes. :grouphug:
kidcat I really hope that tomorrow is a better and less stressful day
For those of you suffering from "The Damsons" can I heartily recommend this ice cream recipe. It is wonderful, glorious stuff.

I didn't have quite enough damsons so topped them up with blackberries. I am going to have to track down more so that I can make another batch.
I've spent the morning at the Age UK shop and only came home with a top, a jumper from the £1 rail, a book and a piece of fabric from the rag bag for a 50p donation. Then my friend came around and I mentioned needing some new curtains. She said she had some that had been given her and I went to her house to look at them. I came home with the curtains and a bin bag full of clothes to be split between several people. I need to get some thermal linings for the curtains, but they will do the job and cost me nothingMy present ones are 15 years old and I've never really liked them that much. Now I just need to sort a curtain for the front door. I've not putting up with the draught for another year.
Time for a bubble bath and am early night.
Take care xxxxx0 -

http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/product_range/4862.htmThanks, hunnies, those are some of her fave veggies. Just rang her and she's been in there today and got 3 of the six. Goodness, but I had to lean on her to investigate Aldi when it first opened in her town, but she quickly discovered a taste for their prices, not to mention that rather nice dark chocolate.
She went from I can't be doing with running around all these different shops to a diligent shopper-arounder.I've become a bit of a saddo (or a bit more of a saddo than I was) by becoming a trolley-groupie. Last weekend I spotted my first Rolser other than mine, and today I saw a gent with a plain black Hoppa. No one is getting lynched on the streets for having shopping trollies, it makes me feel all warm on the inside to think how far we've come as a soceity.

Think I might have to pop to @ldi this week then, I'm thinking a nice carrot, celery and onion soup, broccoli cheese and I love savoy cabbage so I'll have it steamed with everything.
I was very good this evening, knowing I'd not feel like cooking when we got back from the funeral, I chucked a frozen pork stew in the SC on low at lunch time, made up some dumplings and shoved them in the fridge, when we walked in the door, I stirred the stew, chucked the dumplings in and sat down for half an hour before serving. Easy peasey and utterly delish (I add soup and broth mix to stews too, I love the way it soaks up all the juices and goes all squidgey)."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C.
