I have had some of the jam and it's delish. I had it on the bread we made (hard as the hobbs of h*ll, Is that a northern saying?) but actually quite nice. I closed my eyes and thought I was in a farmhouse kitchen. Ok, I sound tuned to the moon again. Shakes her head. I'm back. :D

I think when I can look at my little steps as an achievement rather than thinking I have failed as they haven't lived up to my own expectations, I will be all the more happier.

It might sound daft pah but I'm thinking about my older age too. Can I realistically expect to be able to teach 11-16 year olds in my 60's - 70's.

I'm also thinking about my mental health, the panic disorder, anxiety and that bit of depression. Will I be able to cope with pressures of parents coming in giving me what for? Kids fighting physically in my classroom?

The drive is there to teach but not the love. I can't explain it. I'm brilliant with younger ones and have so much experience. I wanted to progress when I left my career and the obvious progression route was teaching. Now I'm living amongst all this uncertainty and frugality that to be seen to have a better job just because you should, ot because others expect you to climb higher up the career ladder is maybe wrong.

I'm going to have a good think about it yes. I have the old NNEB childcare qualification and a lot of experience working with children who have special needs. Seems so daft to totally walk away from that.

Going to talk to DH about it. I would like to be a SAHM while my youngest is in Infant school so that's 3 years. I'll keep learning though, it's better to have something on my CV other than just mum.

DId you know about OU openlearn? They are free short courses on any and every subject that you do in your own time http://openlearn.open.ac.uk/

grandma thank you for the link. I'd like to try spring cabbage. Going to look into it, thank you :)

Oooo, fuddle, you're a teacher? I absolutely loved my previous job but unfortunately, it was only a maternity cover and I had to leave :( And now I have to relocate to the other side of the country because of my husband's job. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful he finally has a proper career but...I don't know what I feel really so it's best to leave it at that. I am just worried that I will never find such a good school. And I have my PhD to finish as well, and my desire to start a family. It's all getting a bit too much. 1st world problem, eh :o Do you have children fuddle? I can't remember, so many posts to catch up with!

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Photogenic Name Dropper
My DD trained at Norland when it was still based in Hungerford & she was part of the last group that wore the beige dress, brown hat, camel coat & white gloves.
    Hester

That is what Elizabeth wore at all times when working, just the addition of an apron when needed. I wasn't bothered about her being in uniform, it was the fact I knew I could trust a Norwood nannie that counted with me, had know people who had used them over the years but uniform was to be worn and so was - do you know I never thought about it but in a way she reminds me of that woman in the midwife programme the upper class girl ( whose name escapes me ) who became a midwife, she spoke like her but was so petite you wouldn't think she could manage to lift even a tiny baby - my daughter at a year old only weighed 12lbs. I think we were her first proper family after training - she was I think about 2 months older than me.

Do you know not seriously thought about her in years, she is a wonderful person, and I know all children having her as their nanny were blessed I know my older two adored her and ask still if I have heard from her. Also realised not had a card in about 3 years, last I heard she was working for a family in India, I wonder if she is ok, will try and find the card and see if it had a phone number and see if all is well with her. My fault as I got slowly worse and worse with bad health I pushed so many people away, did not want pity nor felt I wanted to hold them back having me for a friend so didn't reply to her letters - she is more a letters person, even now she never was happy with emails and loathed speaking on the phone as she told me she hated the way she speaks and sometimes on the phone you can hear yourself, she was such a wonderful down to earth person.

Wow a lovely trip down memory lane and nice to remember, I don't think I have a photo of her, as she told me nannies are not part of the family and so should not be included in the memories of the family, don't know if that was a school rule or one she made up, she has a few things I am sure she felt were right for her but not school taught. She could be very old fashioned sometimes as if she was from the earlier part of 20th C but adorable........maybe I will be lucky and she is on here and reading this I know she would recognise what I have put........she would love a site like this as she was very into money saving, believing you bought the best then kept it in use until it fell apart, no throwing anything away as it was no longer in fashion, you mended what could be mended. That was what her family did mainly she told me about big mansions full of gloomy but perfect furniture and clothes still worn from 50 years ago if it still had some wear in it. She told me her mother was a debutant and had spent so much on clothes a new gown for every do, but they were all still at home and once her mum started to have her children the old tweeds and clothes of earlier generations were brought out and altered to fit with new things only being bought for something special.........guess that is why the rich stay that way, they invest in good quality then just re-invent it over and over be it clothes or furniture...........

Well I looked forward so much to today, as they said it would be nice. And it wasn't :( cloudy again tomorrow and 13c :(
Honestly can't remember the last time I was out anywhere in the sun walking, feels like I've been stuck in here for years.

The rain certaintly gets most of us down and depressed, weve been quite lucky here had a nice sunny day again with a few fluffy white clouds and @ 20 degrees not too bad at all..........

BUT.... there is a bit of rain on the way for Friday morning,we are usually very dry part of the country, but weve had quite a bit of rain all this year to what we normally expect................

No wonder people go abroad for their hols, at least you do get good weather, if we get a few days hot weather here the newspapers are jumping up and down saying we are hotter than Spain etc etc........What a load of crap..........yea maybe warm for a day or 2 but other countries are hot/warm for months on end...........

BYATT.....You asked me if I got my holiday Ins sorted and im glad to say YES, they paid up, only deducted my sons flight(he come out to look after the grandchildren while I was in hospital).......The hospital bill was 6,6000, euros:eek::eek:........for 6 days intensive care.........I always get travel Ins and definately glad I was Ins............

So ive booked my holiday with the refund and im going to Morocco in October , so haps it will be better luck this time round............

My toms are not doing very well at all, and also my runner beans havent got any flowers on yet, I hope I do get some sort of crop cos its definately not cheap growing your own , Ive grown a lot in deep pots this year and spent a fortune on compost, the tom plants and beans , I could have bought a ton of veg with what ive spent so far, so would like a little return back........

I hope your all bearing up okay, what with the weather and the economy.......................We live on the East Coast and normally theres quite a few visitors about here cos of the beaches, countryside etc, but its so very quiet right now and id have thought the shops must be worried and struggling to get through, everywhere seems so quiet its very unusual for July, but its been like that since March, probaly the weather, economy, fuel price rises, dont know what else it can be.....It sure will be very very tough for loads of us as the year goes on, holding on tightly to our purses............

Yep, this weather almost mirrors the mood of the nation. I always like to think of myself as an honorary British, but on days like this one today, I can't help but be nostalgic of what I left behind :( (and then I realise that I have a great husband and lovely neighbours and very nice in-laws and try to stop moaning :rotfl: )

I had my eye on a wind up torch come radio pops it's on the wishlist. ;) Love your smileys by the way!

No Ellie, not a teacher, just an assistant that worked with children with special needs. I have been trying to get my degree to go into teaching but having a wobble as to whether I actually want to do that. Pleased you liked the OU link :)

It's lovely to think about memories isn't it. I wonder what my memories are that draw a smile to me in years to come. I bet I have a fair few already. Actually I heard this morning my two having a squabble (yeah Ellie I have two girls, one 7 and one 3) the eldest was winding the youngest up and so the youngest retaliated by saying " you just keep out of my nonsense, I mean it, keep your nose out!" I had to laugh, I think she meant business. :rotfl:
