Crikey! I'm well in my 70s and I last had a shampoo and set in about....oooh.....the 1970s. For the last 30+ years a quick blast with the dryer and a twirl or two with the hot brushy thing has sufficed. Looks OK from the front and I don't have to look at the back.

Loved the !!!!!! last night. My first car was an Austin Ruby - 1930s vintage - and yes, Mardatha, I had to crank it to start it. All OK except when I stalled it at traffic lights and had to leap out and crank it under the gleeful leers and wolf whistles of lorry drivers. Ah.......... those were the days. I also remember that the accelerator had a piece of string attached to it, with the other end round my wrist, as it tended to get stuck down and I had to yank it up again. Driving is so boring these days. The MOT has taken all the fun out of it.

Well off to the Metropolis, (oh, yes we have one, it's called Newport and is the size of a large village on the mainland) in search of bargains.

Fairy Princess. I will go through my 1940s books and make a list for futurs publication.

    Be good now.

I think my grandmother, like me, likes her habits. Must be a family trait.

Now, I'd better get some real work done:)

Fitted kitchens cost thousands and thousands. Seriously, when (because I am determined to get myself my own little terraced house some day) I get my own home again I won't be doing that. First thing I'll build will be a walk in pantry. Why oh why we got rid of the pantry in favour of really expensive units I don't know. I have a lot of units in my rented kitchen but nothing really needs to be housed in them, and then very little in the way of space for my food because the overspill is in the cupboard upstairs. It's madness.

I think it's time to have a clear out of my gadgets because they never get used. No kidding, the best thing for my baking was when the electric whisk broke. I was forced into a balloon whisk and now will never look back (so long as I have my health that is).

I'll always need my kettle though ;)

Right lunch time. Wish me luck, I'm trying out the tin stove in the garden to make my cuppa, reheat the jacket potatoe and beans.
  • Really ought to be ironing the clothes that need packing not reading on here - we're off up to my parents for the weekend when OH finishes work. Loved the Wartime Farm last night (VJ's mum - you're not alone, I thought that too!) think it may be the best one yet and the book is great, it arrived yesterday and although I've only had chance for a quick look I can' wait for a proper read.

In a bit of a gid this morning as even though my final essay was only due yesterday (I was a swot and got it in Weds lunch time!) my mark was back already! And I'd done really well so ever so chuffed - can do my revision now.

I also love the kitchenette larder, I used to have a similar one, 1950s/60s, in my bedroom when I was young, great storage. Would kill (well, gently bruise at least :D) to have it now. They sometimes go for a fortune on eBay.

My OH thinks I'm odd because I hate fitted kitchens, I'd much rather have a walk-in pantry and a kitchenette cupboard, with a large, scrubbed wood table...*drifts off into a daydream*

    Morning everyone :)

VJsmum Fingers crossed that the trial goes well and that your DD feels happier there :)

good luck with your experiment fuddle

valk_scot You are a woman after my own heart. I iron very occasionally for special occasions, but the family threaten to take photos as proof when I do.

No news about our friend, but I will give DMIL a call later and see if she has any news.

Today I've gone to the local Age UK shop now that my references have been checked and I start volunteering there on Monday morning. The manager looked like she was ready to hug me in gratitude. Fingers crossed it goes well and I feel ok doing it.
I went to pick damsons on the way back and it looked like someone had got there before me and got the easily reached ones. I must have looked a real sight, standing practically in the middle of the tree/bush trying to reach the ones at the back and jumping up and down to get higher branches. I got enough for a small crumble or a batch of ice cream. Not sure which I will make yet.

Just to let you know that Morrisons has pork shoulder joints on offer at £1.50/kg until Sunday which is the cheapest I've ever seen it and Sainsburys has really good meat offers on at the moment including 2x £6 chickens for £5, so BOGOF and £1 back.

    Take care everyone xxxx

I bought 3 of those pork shoulder joints, have cut one up and it will do the 4 of us for 5 meals, so well worth getting. I'm going to get more before it finishes on Sunday, despite having zero space in the freezer! it's very money saving in the long term.

I don't need to spend any money on a stove. I have all I need here. It worked, I've had my lunch and a cuppa tea (potatoe needed longer but still warm) I won't do it again but it's there, stored in my mind in case we find ourselves with no electricity.

Off to walk my pup, collect blackberries then iron.
  • Hey FUDDLE - Magic, well done it all looks super, and how much have you saved yourself by DIY stove? I'll bet it's loads - 11 out of ten for being do adventurous and inventive - Cheers Lyn xxx.
