Funny about weddings...DD1 had a small wedding with a garden party as a reception and then walked through the village in her wedding dress to the local 'Legion' for a party. All the old folk came to their doors to watch and wish them well. Very little fuss and rather lovely.:)
DD2, on the other hand has always wanted the whole 'meringue' IYKWIM
She is getting married in 2014 and saving like mad bless them! It will be very different to her sisters but very them. Friends and family are helping with making invitations and favours and such and Granny is buying the Wedding Cake. For all that it will be more formal it will still be very much a family day. Her biggest worry is because their collective families are so big, that not all can be invited to the afternoon and some may be offended by an evening only invite. I can feel the stress levels rising already!:(
Grey and windy here, and today's alarm call was a herd of cows bellowing for twenty minutes!:rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
Thanks for warming the tea up, lovely cuppa here
Well it's here folks, autumn that is. Good bye summer, what a laugh! I'm one of these people who can't help but treat September as the beginning of change. Sept means more to me than January 1st. It must be new school, new uniform, new pencil case and it used to be a new season of good stuff on the telly. I can't see how that is true any more but I think I'm turning into a telly grotbags. I only watch 2 programmes a week, soon to be 3 though, so that's progress. Right fuds, shut up and drink your tea and stop boring people!
Going to make birdcake today, although in two minds as my front garden is where my produce (she hopes!) will grow. I don't really want to encourage them but I do have a soft spot for watching them while I'm sat on my fat arris.
Bread is baking, bacon sandwiches are on the menu when the family get up. Weather very dull but calm. I'm alright and wondering what to do with myself today. I'm wondering whether to paste newspaper over that porch wall and then paint it. I've seen a floor being covered that way but worry it might look so pathetic.0 -
-Morning all! Happy Birthday to SDG!:bdaycake:
Looks like i should be an ok day here weather wise - so we're going to put our tent up as we packed it away in the rain when we left Devon a couple of weeks ago. Haven't had chance since - it's either been too wet or DH hasn't been around (it's a mahoosive tent and I can't do it by myself)
Went to West midlands safari park this week. Original intention was to go to Cadbury World, but was sold out for the day we wanted to go. As we have the vouchers have booked for a week today instead.
Tried Basics tea bags this week - I'm usually a PG Tips girl - and was very pleasantly surprised. Think I'll start by me using them in teh day and see how it goes (although I have 3 boxes of PG to also get through)
Definitely chilly here on an evening the past few nights - almost put candles on last night - psychologically they're cosyResisted as it was still just about August and therefore technically Summer! September, however, is Autumn and therfore candles are now fair game for lighting! :rotfl:
My children go back next week. DS3 starts morning pre school every morning (9-12) from Monday (I've never had child free time every day before !:D) , DS2 goes back on Tues and DS1 and DD on Weds. PLan is to get house back together. It survived the first month of the hols but it all went downhill the last couple of weeks
Ooh - from today until 9th Sept there is free listing on eb@y - limited to 150 items for auctions - good time to list bigger stuff. Am going to do stuff like a large twin Little Tykes slide and other stuff - attempt a good clear out before Xmas. I also have a food processor and a bright pink chair (swivel desk one) to get rid of, so will be taking pics etc today to start getting it on - will try and list when the kids are back and see if I can reach the max items! (Doubt it, but will give it a go!)
Right - need another cuppa to get me moving
(and eta kidcat - I looked into hiring a scooter when pg with DS3 as I had crutches with spd then - they weren't fussy about who had them. My friend used one with a broken ankle and foot.)I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Morning fuddle and others to follow.
I have bread rolls proving (will bake them off later today) and tea brewing for my flask. Going to the allotment to try getting 2 hours' labour out of this ME-infested carcase of mine. Would like to do 4-6 hours but I'd wreck myself for a week if I tried it.........(based on past experiences, unfortunately).
Will also be moseying into a couple of c.s. (taking donations as well as having a snoop for OS-applicable books) and checking out L!dl as TP Mountain isn't as mountainous as I'd like it to be and I'm getting some more tinned sweetcorn before prices go silly-high.
Later will be cooking chilli con carne with whoopsied mince and then that will be the meals sorted for the next 3 days.
Have a good one, peeps.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Our schools went back on the 16th, and yes it's very much autumn here. I always hate autumn
In fact am so fed up I'm thinking about buying that Wartime Kitchen book to cheer meself up..
Is the RVs birthday next week and am really stumped for something to get him. Would just be a wee thing anyway but he's really difficult to please and he's got everything - although what he really really needs is some laughing gas.Never laughs, hardly ever smiles - he's such hard going!
I'm going to look on Rosieben's recipe thread for some soups, it's def soup weather and they're cheap to do. Plus you can eat veg without having to taste the bloody stuff.0 -
All my sympathy and healing vibes GQ, is a most horrible bloody illness. xxx0

Mar if you buy the wartime book from the Book People try this code deleted code as I'm not allowed to post on this part of the forum I got this code for signing up to their newsletter. It gave me free delivery on my first order.
Your spirit is super GQ, determined to get on with things even with ME. Hope you can get all you want to do, done, in the time you give yourself.0 -
Mardatha - why not buy the RV the wartime book - kill two birds with one stone as it were:D0

Kidcat, my old dad is disabled and hires a scooter to get round the very large shopping centre. He loves it as it means he doesn't get weary or sore, and can be out for a lot longer. It all seems very trouble free to arrange, and quite fun. Ours have a tortoise and a hare at each side of the speedometer..:rotfl:
I've been with him, and the only downside I'd mention is the fact that able bodied people can be impatient and dad sometimes feels invisible as they step in front of him...:(
It's chilli con carne weather for me, too, but I love Autumn. Actually, I really enjoy all the changes of the seasons, but as we get deeper into winter, I crave daylight something rotten. Get quite desperate for it, so will be gathering info on these lightbulbs I've heard mention.
Off to the garden centre later to stock up on bird seed (they have a 2 for 1 deal on 20kg sacks, and I have vouchers :T), and maybe a mooch.
Enjoy your Saturday everyone.
LB xx
P.S. I look like an extra...always blending into the background of the main show0 -
Morning all
Fuddle, I also love your new avatar and am in mourning for the loss of your blog! You should start again when you feel up to it - illegitimi nil carborundum as they say! :rotfl:
SGD, happy birthday! Sounds like you'll have a smashing time!
Mar, buy him some pre-filled helium balloons, let him breathe the gas, turns your voice into Pinky and Perky - would that make him smile? If not, then at least you'd get a giggle out of it! :rotfl:
I've borrowed a book from work (they have a mini library from Book people freebies) with loads of new-to-me soup and stew recipes, look gorgeous, maybe Sunday tea. Weather's been cool and damp here, drizzly now but less cold, but I still feel like comfort food!
Ours at back to school next Tuesday, still got to name a few things and make sure we've got pack-up things in, will have to do a load of baking tomorrow or Monday.
Giving serious thought to handing in notice at new job - I enjoy what I do, but the late nights are already hurting a bit, goodness knows how we're all going to cope when it's cold and dark and the kids are exhausted. I know it sounds really selfish to give up a very good job in the current climate, so maybe I'm being too pessimistic. I know we can manage without the extra money, OS runs through me like a stick of rock, but I'm already on the verge of confessing my life-long depression to the dr - each time it flares up badly I feel worse, but have never gone to the dr before. I'm the eldest in my family, always had to help mum and the younger children, then DH and our children, so usually my little worries go to the end of the list - many women the same, I bet! Now got to the point where my brain hurts all the time, feel "grey" inside and out and feel like I want to sleep all the time, so maybe enough's enough!
Sorry to moan, but just wanted to let off steam - hope I've not wrecked your Saturday morning!
Going to make SMALL shopping list and practise what I preach re spending less this week! :rotfl:
See you later.
