Im sorry but what better use than to pay for a roof over your head:(

CAB said do you want to use it for that and said if I get a smaller place I could use Mum;'s money to furnish the new place and that way the Government/Council don't get it and I am set up for the future.

And if I use it for normal spending they will not stop me, then when I reach a certain level they will help me again(I hope)but I could buy stuff for here and still take some of it with me when/if I relocate...

But if I could afford to stay put I could still make this place quite nice for the future and if I save on the food, gas/electric and taxi rides as I have been just maybe I can stay put and absorb the change in what I may have to pay out...At least I have all my gadgets, blankets, clothes already...

But I would hate to spend it and then have to leave it behind...but you are right Molly...

Littlecal I once had to paint the woodwork in our bedroom in our old house 4 times as each choice was absolutely disgusting. I was trying to be a bit cutting edge but it really didn't work.

But, you know, many of us have to use our savings for things we'd prefer not to...that's life. :(

I agree and everyone is talking a lot of sense...thank you...also thanks Smiley.

I'm getting narked and going to log off but before I do I have to say this whether you all agree with me or not.

If someone has money then the money should be used to pay for the roof over their head. If someone doesn't have money and are in dire need then in this country we are lucky that we pay a proportion of our income to help us out when we have no money.

I don't buy the idea of squandering money so the council/government don't get it. It really angers me actually and that's why I need time out tonight.

In this life, no body owes anybody anything. We live to make our way through life. Money, shelter, food.

Let me tell you this. I have a job today. A job that I'm chuffed about but will we be any better off financially? NO! Because what I make will take us over the tax credit threshold. We'll be no better off and quite possibly worse off with my good news today but so what. I'm getting my independence back slowly and surely and now I have no state help regarding my family's income and I'm thrilled to be back up there even though I can't yet pay tax because I'm under the threshold - at least I'm no longer taking!

We had my Mum and Dad and DH's widowed Dad at the registry office. Got married in Manchester on Thursday, flew out to Amsterdam for a three day honeymoon and then flew back Monday, removed contents of DH's flat and moved over 100 miles to new area to both of us for DH's new job.

Fortunately the job came with a tiny flat in the college where we lived till we found a house we liked and could afford after saving like mad.

Thirty years , four DDs and three house moves later we are still together.

Don't let it get you down and you are not the one in the wrong. She sounds over stressed to put it politely and if someone calmly explaining why her unasked for plans were not affordable and why makes her scream then she really needs to get out more.

Fuddle well done! you'll be brilliant as a lunch-nanny :).

Pops I'm sorry, I know it's none of my business but I think you're in a much more fortunate position than a lot of folks. I empathise that you have lost your Mum, it's a difficult transition for a lot of people our age, but you are fortunate to have the chance to use your inheritance to plan for your potentially frugal future, you have housing choices (whether you chose to make them or not) and you appear to have excellent insight into your health issues, prognosis and life expectancy.

I meet a lot of people who are thrown into chaos with no resources who have to make changes, often with no choice, and they have met that challenge and do eventually flourish. The bedroom tax is a huge challenge, but you do have choices - you can move, you can take in a lodger(s), or you can choose to spend your money maintaining your lifestyle. If as you say your inheritance will not last more than several weeks at least you can prepare for that - and you'll once again become eligible for benefits on a par with others.

I don't mean to offend but life isn't fair, by and large, and we each need to count our blessings, of which you appear to have many.

Fuddle, congrats on the job :)

    Sunshine, I agree - she's a spoilt brat :P

A very good friend of mine is getting married in May and having her hen in March. Her best friend is organising the hen and has detailed almost to the penny how much it will cost with breakdowns. There are deadlines for deposits and we have had 2 months to decide whether we can make it/afford it before the bookings will start to be made. Brilliant organising which means that we can budget accordingly if we can go :)

Pops, While I feel for you losing your mum etc, I dont really feel its right that you are in a 3 bed house when there are so many people with families out there desperate for a home........

My friend as 4 children and she is in private rental home a 2 bed property, she phones the council very often to see if there is any chance of getting a 3 bed but as yet she as no hope, plus 2 of the children are disabled...........She apparently is in "group" D which how she explained it to me means that ABC are to get homes first and each group have 32 families in.....!! She as no chance..........And we live in a area where they say our housing lists aint too bad..!!, Ive put my hard hat on ..!!

Also you do have some money behind you where a lot of people are on the breadline and in debt, I expect you are finding things harder because your mum probaly did most of the worrying for you, I dont mean to come across hard and un emotional but when I read your posts and alot of members on here are trying very nicely to help you out and to find a solution for you...........I know you say the money wont last long but if your going to pay for a 3 bed house until the money runs out then that is up to you....................

On to the weather well we had a sunny start that ended up raining and we need the rain badly here so I didnt mind giving up the outside jobs for one afternoon, I got on with the housework instead..............:D

I've written, rewritten, deleted and deleted a post tonight but I cannot bring myself to post it.

I was brought up to believe at if you can't say anything nice then say nothing at all.

So with that, I shall bow out.

    Good luck all
