Popperwell:- I don't know why, but the bedroom tax will not affect those who are in private landlord property. So, if you are looking around this might be an option for you, because if you take a two bedroom property you will not be penalised.
Did not know that...it's another option...I did hear that pensioners that live in "Social Housing" do not pay the BT(pity I am so far off being a pensioner)
I'm tempted to think of going private but once out of council or HA property a private landlord may increase rent more, if benefits go wrong I may be more likely to lose the roof over my head?
Would a PL want someone like me?
Political rant here...
The House of Lords did try to stop BT coming in and halt or put a compromise on some of the plans to change welfare but our PM used clever political footwork and the numbers he has with being in partnership with Libdems to get his plans through.
But anyone who thinks a change in Government will reverse matters will be disappointed.
I'd be telling lies if I did not say I am worried/frightened wondering if I stay put can I afford to absorb the extra costs but equally I still feel the same if I do find a smaller property. Especially, if just as you perhaps find somewhere suitable and get settled and the Government withdraw more money you'll be in trouble again. And a PL would want you out if that happened."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

*waves at Iris and newbies*
Iris it can be really overwhelming at first but an early diagnosis is a godsend believe me as I know to my son's cost..( diagnosed finally at 5 years and 10 months)
early intervention is the key XX
My nephew got his diagnosis in the last year of primary school (a-typical autism & adhd), nephew in law got his in Yr5 (asperger's), & we're waiting for a diagnosis for DS2, now going into Yr 5... My other problem is that all the support groups round here are in the school day, when I'm at working at preschool. They really helped my sister, as you get to meet other parents with children with asd, & get to remember you're not the only 1.Hello to all the new delurkers :-)
Had a nice pottering day today. Made some rhubarb and apple jam, OH chopped lots of logs we collected over the weekend from a nearby wood and dehyrated lots of red peppers.
We also started on some inside winter preps. Got out an old curtain to put up at the living room door and put on the winter duvet. (In August!) Our house is freezing in the winter as it is a very drafty stone terraced cottage and the wind whistles through it.
I started planning a shopping basket for here http://www.britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk/ as OH works outside and their grade 2 woolen jumpers, thermals and trousers look a really cheap. He is also very hard on his clothes so army stuff is just the ticket. I will also order myself some long sleeved thermal vests as they are only £3. They also sell lots of weird and wonderful things..such as Russian field guns:D
Think I'll have to look at that site when the boys are busy elsewhere, as I do not want russian field guns!Hello Everyone
Just thought I would pop in and explain my absence!
Went for a growth scan on baby Pea and "it" measures quite a lot smaller than it should and hadn't grown at all since last. Got to gofor another next week and if its not grown again they may well decide to deliver early. So Ive been told to rest lots and stay on my left side as much as possible, hence not much time on computer!
In good news OHs job is going well and they have now switched me from JSA to Maternity Allowance, all seems to have gone smoothly but only time will tell hey!
Best wishes to all on here, I am trying to keep up with you all but its hard!
Best wishes to you too, rest rest rest! & make sure you're eating & drinking properly. My sister was told to go on mat leave early as baby wasn't growing, then induced on his due date as he still wasn't growing much - he's 17 now & a strapping lad!
Have you got plenty of people helping look after Pip?
Boys made me a cooked breakfast, well done to my super boys! Then my parents in law came round, so we followed hash browns, fried eggs & veggie bacon with lemon cake with lemon butter icing & bonne maman berries & cherries jam :-) DS1 said he wished he hadn't had the last egg & hash brown before cake ;-) ...
Boys & Errant Husband got me another orchid & 3 more cooking books; PIL gave me a pretty top, hope it fits me as its a 14, but my top half isn't as overweight as my bottom half, so we'll see. Its not pretty enough to be the incentive for loosing weight though.
Postie brought my water purification tablets & emergency blankets, waiting for my new vacuum cleaner, will go on the pc when I've posted this & check the expected delivery time. Then do housework... Got a load of washing on the line & rain forecast for this afternoon, so will not do more washing today.0 -

I can't get used to "social housing", to me it is was and always will be a cooncil hoose and I've been in them since I got my first flat at 17.
Likewise I cant get used to "human resources" which is personnel! and "housing benefit" is a rent rebate! And a spade is was and ever shall be a bloody spade, not a garden implement:rotfl::rotfl:
Wonder why they keep changing the names of things that are always the same thing. Just to convince us thickos that they've done something new maybe0 -

I totally ageee Mar. Perhaps they feel there is less of a stigma when using the new terms. This area had all the local councils(you can argue whether this a good idea getting rid of layers of beraucracy(sp?)were dissolved by Labour actually and all the housing stock transferred to a kind of Housing Association(I'm still not quite sure that's what they are)I have a feeling it has some charitable status.
And I'll be honest I have yet to hear anyone say anything good about them.
I think we were actually better off when we were looked after by the council we originally dealt with. And the whole area now has a Countywide council based in Durham which costs us more.
Happy Birthday Spiky,
Hope that you have a lovely day..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I agree pops. Have you ever tried contacting the county wide county hall helpline for anything? You're forever held in a queue. Much better than when we had out own district councils. I voted against, and so did many people. Didn't they just go ahead with the changes anyway?
One thing about private rented is that you don't have the same security as you would with HA. My LL could say at any time he wants his property back and we have 2 months to get out.
I tested my heating for 10 minutes today (nothing to do with being cold, ok maybe) I really need to toughen up if I'm going to cut down. Anyway, it works0 -
Pips Mum
Hope you can manage a rest twice a day, lying down properly if possible. Hugs and good wishes sent your way, and keep
Had to do an emergency de-frost of freezer last pm, as I had not closed it properly and the drawers froze shut. I think the seal on the door may be a bit perished, but reluctant to get another as we have just had to get a new washing machine. I'm afraid all our appliances are going to pack up now, we have been in this house for 12 years, and they are demonstrating built in obsolescence, just like I am.Btw this is the longest I have ever lived in one house, and counting evey place I have lived for over a month, is number 20. No wonder I appreciate staying at home!
Just finished prepping and freezing carrots and hm summer pudding fruit mix, picked up at S'burys yesterday. I think we will have a meatless NSD today, possibly jacket potatoes tonight, as summer pudding is quite filling.
Gloomy and drizzly now, we had a terrific downpour about 8am, so keep dry all of you0 -

I'm a pensioner, in a 2-bed flat (LA sheltered housing) and I pay for the second bedroom. I get LHA as mentioned before.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
