Nella Lasts Diary is a book of her diary she kept through the war - she was very very like you fuddle, you should get a copy. I read her 20 odd years ago before she was famous and I never forgot that book.

Yes what Mard. says :D But I find reading books about people's struggles, in Nella's case struggling with the losses of WW2 and rationing, quite inspirational when applied to my own struggles on a daily basis ;) For the same reason I love the 'Little house on the prairie' books, and things like Call the midwife and Ha'penny to cross the Mersey

In fact "What would Nella do?" would make a good OS t shirt! LOL!

Perhaps we'll all have to make one and one day we may identify each other by seeing the t-shirt first. There must be a cheap way of doing this:)

Pops - you used to be able to get transfer paper which you could print/draw things on and then iron the transfer onto fabric. If it's still available that's probably the cheapest way I can think of (apart from writing it on with a black marker!).

    Still want one :D

Have to pack today too as tomorrow we're off to the west coast of Scotland :j

Oh dear I sent Jessie to you, she'll probably arrive tomorrow. should have checked.:o Have a great time.:D Oh and maybe they'll have some Pimms you can try? A proper jug of Pimms is a wondrous thing.
Evie I think you must still be able to get transfer paper as my son did a t shirt at school.
I'm off to Aldi for some milk. Wouldn't it be terrible if a bottle of Austins fell into my trolley by accident?

We might still be around when the post comes tomorrow Possession, and even if not, the PO will keep her warm on their shelf till we get back. Thank you for sending her :D

Too many brilliant posts for the multiquote. Definitely would like a 'what would Nella do?' t-shirt and that's before I've even read about her. Maybe we need to put it in our signature so we can be identified as toughies :rotfl:

About to bake but before I do I'm going to go see if I can reserve a copy online at library ;)

I ordered yesterday a -shirt transfer kit with some crayons on amazon for £3 something and free super saver delivery. It's for DD's 8 b'day next month. I might have to nab it for myself!

    Would you help me?

Which Nella Last is tthe best to start with?

    Morning all

Another scorcher down here although it's quite cloudy at the moment I expect that will get pulled out when the tide changes.

Was registering as 26 degrees at 8.45pm last night  we took DDs to a local fair, lovely evening but not cheap. Was due to go to the beach for the day today but as we were all still awake at 2am because of the heat I think a lazy day in the garden might be best. Will go for a paddle/swim later on this evening to cool down.

GQ - it's Adams ale here too, my Nan always called it that and we had to have it in the little half pint beer mugs because it was "ale" :D

I can't stand Pims, but then again I don't like gin so it's not surprising. I rarely drink alcohol when the weathers hot, it just gives me a crashing headache.

I have a new dresser coming for my dining room :j which will free up a lot of cupboard space in the kitchen dresser which will give me more food storage space! Once it's here I can rearrange my current storage of dried goods and make room for a more organised system. My mum was so impressed with my stores and went home to make a list of stuff she can start getting in. My parents are early 60s and live out in the stick, as Mum doesn't drive she needs to start being more prepared incase Dad can't get her to the shops (his brother was taken very poorly this week and major surgery so it's put it all into perspective for them).

mardatha, do any of your knitters use a knitting belt? There was a woman, near where I used to live, who wondered the lanes knitting whilst using a belt

Not nice today, dark, misty and very humid. Have stopped fighting the humidity and turned the de humidifier off, after seeing how the electric was spinning . All windows open and pagan dawn by medwyn goodall playing and is suiting my mood today, sort of detached ie the world goes on all around us anyway. It`s that sort of weather

This is the first one in the series...http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nella-Lasts-War-Diaries-Housewife/dp/184668000X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345368735&sr=8-1 I'd start with that one, as it's the best intro. The Works had that too in the 2 for £5 offer, and they are showing that offer in their website too.
