  • Morning all, we so enjoyed the Olympics Closing Ceremony last night and stayed up to the very end. Didn't it make you feel proud of what has happened over the last two weeks? I was the biggest olympic sceptic that I knew and have, despite all my misgivings, enjoyed it all so much!!!!! Loved the Eric Idle skit and was so moved by John Lennon and Freddie Mercury being part of it all. Loved Elbow, that track is so appropriate. Well, now it's back to the real world I expect, and that's no bad thing at all.

Have a good one folks, Cheers Lyn x.

I woke up and found I'd lost me thread, as well as the plot ! Foundit now though and added a new story :D
Yes, agree it will be interesting to see what happens now the olympics over.
Going up to Costco and Sainsbugs today for cheese and butter and tea. Will have a look at microwaves too, when I get the rent overpayment back I'll get one I think.
The nights are drawing in already and it feels like autumn coming fast - they were saying on a Scots weather forum that the swifts have left already :( I hate autumn with a passion, it gets me depressed. Everything dying and finished. On the bright side, I've finished one pair of xmas socks and started another last night. ;)

Also wondering if all is well at the palace with only Harry and Kate in attendance as queen was meant to be there.....Harry was it seems the one who could be spared to stand in while something seems to be happening .....I am not a great Royalist, but used to having one and certainly wouldn't wish harm on any so hoping morning doesn't bring bad news.

PAH:- I thought exactly the same, I thought Prince Philip to be honest!

It's a catch-up with the washing day today. My grandchildren are visiting tomorrow and therefore I don't see the point in hoovering today. I will only get stressed at the biscuit and crisp crumbs . Come to think of it, I will hold off on washing the kitchen floor as well! :rotfl: Two five year old's and a three year old! Messy!:D

Mardatha:- I love autumn, mind you I bet yours starts before mine! :p I prefer the cooler months, summer wears me out and autumn brings me alive again. I think of it as a prelude to Christmas as well. I am an unashamed Christmas lover!!:j

Next week we're going up to the west coast of Scotland for a couple of days to stay with FIL and his wife. She is very frugal, she's had to be. I learn an awful lot from her. Mar just ordered from ebay some 3.25 double pointed needles so i'll be knitting my socks while up there :D

I've been plodding on with my crochet winter house coat. I've nearly finished the first sleeve.

Yes it feels like it's drawing in. I'm noticed a slight chill when getting up of a morning. Even when the rains were pouring (and it looks like we've a rubbish 2 weeks ahead) it wasn't like that.

To be honest, I just want to get the kids back to school and get some routine and normality back into my day. I don't mind autumn although that was in the days of heating blasting etc. I'm in a for a rough one. It will be like I live two lives though. During the day, wrapped up, indoor hat on etc battling it out to save some pennies and then in the evening, as DH insists on a warm house when it's cold although he's getting there re: jumpers ad socks, i'll be sat all cosy in just pyjamas and dressing gown after my warm bath.

I have a house that resembles the local tip. A lot of work to do today. I hope the girls can occupy themselves and let me just get on with it!

PAH - I expect the Queen was having a well-deserved rest after a busy year, and I think the music was more Harry's thing than hers! All the news I heard before was tht there was no confirmation as to which royals would be attending and wondering whether the Queen would make it back from Balmoral.

Meme someone said that both Harry and Princess Anne were at the closing ceremony, I'll catch bits on the internet later...

PAH that will be nice for you having company...

Mardatha, my microwave combi was on offer and is a Panasonic!(It microwaves, grills and works like an oven)if you can understand the instructions...

I used to like Christmas, wonder how I will feel this year. I am still going to try and listen to the Christmas music and make myself a Christmas lunch. Hope it doesn't make me unhappy...

A customer was telling me all about the special Chistmas stuff Aldi gets in for the festive season...we'll see...I just keep adding to my food store...I probably could feed myself for months but the dates on most items are ages away so what I have will be used and not thrown out and if they are Best Before I'll eat what I have after the dates...

I still worry that if I lose my DLA or am not entitled to the replacement will I still keep a roof over my head. At least I have food and warm clothes but if I had nowhere to take it:(

At a push and there is no guarantee anyone would take me in...I have one elderly Uncle and Aunt 20+miles away and a friend in Cornwall and that's it!

And they are not obliged to look after me...

Fuddle whilst I can I will start to put the heating on and if I use a lot and can afford it for now...I will, If I need no more food may as well be warm and next year who knows...like you I have lots of jumpers and warm clothes for the day and at night they still do but I could switch to PJ's and a dressing gown...

Going to eat a bit more I think and stuff the fast...

Someone said to me on my blog with all the doom and gloom eat and be merry and why if things are getting worse do you want to live longer?

My auntie of 98 went into a home at that point just because the stairs were steep in her own home but for that I think she would have stayed put. But she always wore a thick outdoor coat and a woollen hat to keep warm...

If I buy some electric blankets as well as the mattresses soon which is best?

Over or under blanket? And one that you switch off or keep on all the time?

The last electric blanket I saw was over 30 years ago and belonged to my grandma and was just like a little pink fleeece type thing, she put it on maybe half an hour before going to bed and then switched it off. Think it was an under blanket.

    Enjoy your trip Fuddle:)

I think an underblanket Pops, but do be strict with yourself about switching them off or use a timer, I know two people who had serious house fires because of electric blankets, so serious that I won't have them in the house.

I have a combination oven now but my last basic microwave lasted over 3 years, and was an @rgos value one, less than £30 I think though the price has probably gone up since; I'd never pay a lot of money for a basic microwave, if it's at least 700watt it will do all the things I mentioned and more. ;)

Just about had time to catch up on the posts, you all talk so much, lol. I absolutely cannot remember who I wanted to reply to. except Gem, We love our pets in this house. Our dog thinks he's one of the kids, the cat thinks he's a dog and the rabbits are just as confused. I hope you have lots of fun with your new bundle of fur and fun :)
Who was it that has been out blackberrying? Me and the girls picked loads when we went on the meadows on sat, also got sloes ready for making sloe gin for christmas presents.
My next step is wine making, just been given a load of equipment from a friend of a friend of a friend (maybe of a friend ;) ) I have everything sterilising right now and will be chopping rhubarb from the allotment later.
doing well with freebies at the moment. last month my mum bagged me a playhouse for the girls from the school on her road. It was too decrepit for them but i have rebuilt it and patched it and it takes pride of place on the lotty to keep the girls busy while i'm digging.
mum phoned me earlier this morning, as well, to say that workmen at the school are replacing windows and do i want some for making a coldframe.. YES PLEASE! :j
And finally for today, my friend has phoned me to say she has free passes for the posh leisure centre, can me and the girls come :D off to make a picnic and get the towels ready. they have an outdoor pool and kids activities.
we have to be home for 3.30 though to take dh to the dr. he had a hip op (not a hiphop ;) ) 3mths ago and after dd2 jumped on it a couple of weeks ago he's struggling with the pain. We really can't afford for him to take time off work, but we really dont want him like this either. he has 3 nights off now ready for a 12 nighter of 12 hr shifts :(

Must go, if i get time i'll be back on later. with hugs and hopes for happy days for all xxx

I agree with the electric underblanket, so cosy. Mil bought us one a couple of years ago as our christmas present. I have to say I wasn't impressed when we opened it, but absolutely love it now. be careful how you store it when its not on the bed, as if you fold it you might snap the filament thingies. xx
