The rice thing is a little over the top. Yes cool it quickly but you can just spread it out on a plate while you have your tea and when you come back to it it should be cool enough to bag up and freeze. I have no worries at all about freezing it and neither do my Asian friends. They do it all the time.
I did a bit of research about leftover rice and the worst culprits are often Chinese restraunts that just leave it out for very long periods of time in a warm kitchen. Any cooked food will make you ill under those conditions. The toxins in foods especially cooked meats are the reason why you become ill even though the food is hot and smells and tastes ok.0 -

Hi Kezlou:)
Thanks Grandma...that thread might be useful though...
Common sense again as much as anything.
Well I have had some ham., tomato and lettuce in bread buns...two cups of coffee and a cup a soup. That will do me for today.
Later I'll open the Slow cooker box, take it out, wash the inside pot and then set it away perhaps at 2am, late night tonight catching up on tv and radio via the net...
Earlier on we were talking about poor employers...Bit political this and I have posted it on another thread but here goes...It's appropriate on a thread about trying to cope with hard times...
Big survey mentioned on the radio(The Rowentree Foundation)I think, now remember they say the average wage is £26,000 no one I know earns that and never have...a shop assistant in Aldi's earns between £8,000-£9,000(That's on their own website)
Anyhow, it turns out in this survey a family of two parents and two children reckon becuase of the cost of travel and child care etc...they need an income of £37,000 annually and if you are single you need at least £16,000.
Who is going to pay that? They like paying a minimum wage and letting the Government top it up! Now those on benefits due to unemployment/illness are you getting anything like that? I don't think so...""A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

That was a bit scary earlier on, I lost the Thank you button and I was not allowed to access the site and then as if by magic...all is well..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Thanks popperwell I think you are right I will wait it out until later tomorrow before making any decisions.
So many jobs these days do not pay anything at all or a pittance towards the costs of motoring even if the job means a lot of travelling between appointments and you are using your own car which is being worn out. The organisation should really make it more clear if this is expected or the policy. Instead of mentioning it in passing.
I know the carers that came out to Mum were not given anything towards their travel costs and...were on the minimum wage..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

kidcat I know this might sound harsh but if this is her paid job then I don't think you or anyone else should be contributing to her petrol costs. Her employer should be doing so. It's a b*gger and it's definitely not right if she has to pay for her own travel costs  However I do think that as you and others have to pay your own travel costs then the offer of cake (or cakes... mmmm yum yum) is reasonable. Sleep on it pet, and see how you feel in the morning.
Popperwell I am more than astounded that your dear late mother's carers were not paid their travel expenses. This is outrageous. How the f are people supposed to do their jobs properly and look after their own families?? It makes me  and*If you have nothing nice to say... say nothing*"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." I have always reheated leftover rice, in the microwave till scalding hot, and no-one in my family have had any ill effects whatsoever*If you have nothing nice to say... say nothing*"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. I had no problem with the carers but(and I know not everyone is this way)the social worker and the main District Nurse caused us distress and I get upset and angry how they cared for her in her final months when she was so weak.
She was happy with the care she was getting from the carer and myself. But they had their own ideas and you could not move them, they knew best, they even upset the carer...Then finally when we got our own way, she took really ill, was put in hospital for a week, transferred to a Nursing home and passed away four weeks later.
Never managed to pass away in the home she loved, in her own surroundings..:(
But I must not feel guilty or beat myself up, Icannot change things, I did all that I could and I cannot bring Mum back...and to some extent I think when you lose a loved one all these thoughts go through your mind and its part of the grieving process...
Sorry to bring the thread down...Most of the time I am doing ok but living with someone for decades in the same property and being so close it is a sudden change to come to terms with...and I know others have gone through similar situations or will.
The carers are working on the cheap but the company charged plenty for Mum's care believe me...which we had to pay to the County Council..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Kidcat, I don't understand what the problem is

popperwell what you are feeling is normal. Your Mum would be so proud of you. She will remember the home she loved and the people she loved, wherever she actually passed. And I'm sure she would be more than happy to know that you are eating well and that you have love and support, albeit from strangers*If you have nothing nice to say... say nothing*"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
