  • Thanks gang, I should be used to it by now, the eldest girlie takes expeditions and has done the Himalayas and they both took a World Challenge to Mount Kilimanjaro with 64 kids, that was really scary. The scariest of all was the eldest having to fly to India on a Cathedral/School link visit the week after the Mumbai terrorist attack, she was asked to go last minute as the person scheduled to go had an accident and was in hospital! Hurricanes and mountains seem to feature in their lives but, I couldn't dream of saying don't go it would not be fair to them. Suffice it to say I'm always a lot happier when the trips are over and they are home again! Much happier now as I've just had a text from DD2 and she'll ring in an hour when she's finally home, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Great news Lyn, so pleased - mine are too small to worry me like that but I would have thought it's never something you can entirely get used to, worrying is pat of the mummy job description!

Thank you everyone for the good wishes. Am almost ready now - the dress is finished, I was up til 2 last night hemming - gosh there's a lot of hem to do on a circular skirt! finished the petticoats and the fabric band for the cake this morning. OH has also finished his essay which is due while we are on honeymoon - just needs to proof and reference. So all going to plan now - am going to be able to sit back and enjoy having my nails and face done this afternoon.

    Hugs all - Helen X

    :) Hello everyone :)

SDG - I know how you feel. DH is as bad as the kids and when he is on leave or working from home, I have extra tidying and cleaning to do. Even little things like leaving his wardrobe doors open (he did this today) - the bottoms of all the family's wardrobes are crammed with all sorts from bedding to gift stashes -and it drives me mad as the cats get in there and cause havoc as well as fur on the clean sheets. I came downstairs to every light on like Blackpool Illuminations even though we had a bright morning behind the curtains. Good job I love him!!

Today is supposed to be a pyjama type day but even so there is the laundry, dishes, cooking and cleaning up after 2 messy boys and various odd jobs and we need milk again so will have to venture out and face the world. All I want to do is get back into bed. I am taking your approach SDG and doing small tasks interspersed with cuppas. ;) Its the only way! Let us know how you're doing later.

Mrs LW - Hurrah! Yippee! So pleased your daughter is back home safe and sound. What a relief.

Stiltwalker  - Have a beautiful, happy and extra special day tomorrow. Just breathe it all in and enjoy every second.

We had fun going trick and treating last night. My cobbled together outfits looked pretty good especially with face paints - DS2 insisted in carrying the witches broom I bought him ages ago from pound shop with his dracula outfit. We only went to people we know or houses with pumpkins or decorations on show. There were loads of other families out too and lots of people had made a big effort with dressing up, even some adults and decorating their homes. My boys enjoyed the atmosphere as much as their sweetie haul and were estatic to be allowed to eat sweets (just a few) at 7.30pm before bed.

We had a hectic but lovely time with friends yesterday. My friend doesn't drive and means she has to push her 8 year old in a disability buggy everywhere so we played cabbie for the day for them as they had a couple of places to go to. Then they had lunch at ours and afterwards the kids decorated a big batch of muffins. We made the icing up with water and added the colour after when we should have used just icing sugar and food colouring so we had orange, sludgy green and grey instead of red, bright green and black. Called the colours pumpkin soup, frog's leg stew and witch's tea and the kids were thrilled. The whole kitchen was covered in icing and cake sprinkles, it was great fun. We rounded off the day with a trip to the park, it was breezy but the kids all needed to run around and let off steam so my friend and I huddled together and let them go wild!

    Pumpkin freezing question
Only thing we ran out of time to carve the pumpkin so will do it belatedly later today. Usually do it at my mums and she bins the inners. I have never cooked pumpkin and have no clue tbh but it seems an awful waste to throw it out. Could I freeze it in portions do you think as haven't the energy to do lots of cooking today?

Goodness I could write forever so better stop and sort out dry laundry (and spare your goodselves more of my ramblings !)

Have a good afternoon....pinch punch 1st day of the month.... and no returns :rotfl:

After a night of terrible high winds and heavy rain we had a gap in the weather so I went shopping to town. Unfortunately it started again and the roads were flooded on the way home, but got home safely.

LOts of offers on again, but had to miss out on the meat at 30 percent off as my freezer is full to the brim...although I did take out some spare ribs for tonight so I could fit in a pack of vanilla/cherry ice cream.

Lidl's had some Christmas stuff in but on examining them all I could only eat one chocolate marzipan log that was gluten free. All the rest were loaded with gluten and cereal so put them back on the shelf. I had forgotten how many Christmas type treats I am unable to eat..... Last year I ended up making my own gluten free and taking them to parties with me so at least I could have something to eat while everyone else was wolfing the buffet down.....

The storms are due to come back later so making the most of the gap. For the first time ever we have not lost our internet, which is satelite wifi. We have lost sky news (get it free) so we are watching CNN. I heard there are some villages very badly damaged (and crops) in Northern Greece but won't know more till the evening news.

Aching all over from moving and stacking the ton of wood yesterday but at least we got it stacked and covered up before the rain started.

Just going to have a nice cup of caramel and vanilla perked coffee.....lovely!

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Will have to consult with OH as my technial advisor as this is beyond my capabilities! But will try to do one of all of us together as DD also has a beautiful dress and my 2 men (big guy and little guy) are both going to look very handsome too.

SQ, if anyone can find a way to get away with the family, i reckon you can.

I can understand how you feel about redundancy. My DH also has lived with that threat for the last couple of years, several people were made voluntarily redundant in the summer but there could be another round and next time will be compulsary. DH's administrator job isn't catergorised as essential, apparantely all the lecturers and professors etc can do all their own finances, admin, marketing, student welfare, catering, security, cleaning and everything else that comes with running a university - with out any support staff who are all classed as non-essential. Fingers crossed both DHs are both spared redundancy.

kidcat - good luck for today!
2tonsils - glad you are ok after the storm/floods

    going now....really this time
