make do and mend for tougher times

Good morning all

Brr.... It's cold in the office this morning.

The heavy rain hit us yesterday afternoon and stayed until the wee small hours (at one point, I woke up to hear it pounding on the window and then I heard DH putting the bin out for collection - not sure which one woke me). We only had one brave band of trick-or-treaters and I retreated to the kitchen, leaving DH to deal with them. (I was not in the mood.)

My car aquaplaned on the motorway on the way home last night. I was only doing 50 MPH. Fortunately, there were no idiots right up behind me at the time, since I went into "don't touch anything" mode until I felt traction again. (Even let go of the steering wheel, in case I did something that put the car into a spin.) It was the weirdest feeling.

What is this book "The Great Depression" that everyone's talking about? A quick search of Amazon came up with several possible titles.

I haven't seen the foodbank program but am now dying to watch it. You've whetted my curiosity.

GQ. Don't worry about your hat. One of the girls in my choir wears a furry, Tigger hat. In the shop at Stonehenge last week, I saw knitted, sheep-shaped ones.

SHES BACK!!!!! Is in luggage reclaim waiting for bags and I'm sitting here not knowing whether to laugh or cry because I feel like doing both!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot find words to really say what a support you have all been during the wait, you have all been so kind and caring and keeping giving the messages of hope and support means more than I can begin to explain. All I can say is that you lot colletively make my world a very, very much better place to be and I hope I can repay the huge debt I owe you all by helping others in the future to the extent you have all helped me now, You're brilliant and I'm Sooooooooo HAPPY, Thank you, thank you, thank you, Love and lots of it Lyn xxxxx.

Really good news LYN x I cxan't even begin to imagine the emotional rollercoaster you've just been on! I've decided that my girls are forbidden from leaving my side...ever!! . (yeah right...they're 5&7 and already have big plans for their future!)
Must dash, will have a proper catch up later.
The girls stayed out after their halloween party last night so I have to collect them and get DD2 ready for staying out again tonight, at nanna's house.
Me and DD1 will be gutting the house and doing some crafty bits this afternoon. see y'all later x

Hubby and I pay taxes and since '08 our income is 1/3 of what it was and longer comfortable, and I fail to see why, when we're struggling to make ends meet to avoid any debt, this woman should have any of our taxes to allow her to continue to get child benefit when their income is £100k per year :mad:

Maybe taxes could be increased so we pay more so there's enough left to pay her too.
My hubby works bl**dy hard to earn just above NMW now and I don't see why she should get any of it.
If her children lose out because CB is withdrawn from her then she needs budgeting lessons and should join MSE.

Rant over, going to have a cuppa and calm down.

Also it sets a precedent - universal benefits such as the Old Age Pension will surely be next and means tested just like the Child Benefit !
