I bet you have white stuff this morning too. We have a covering but not too deep. It looks decidedly grey out.

Well, were staying in today. I'm a bit eeekk about it because I need to get out and about on a Saturday when DH is home to prevent me from going stir crazy on my own and isolated during the week... i.e. school holidays!

I'm going to bake today. I need a bit me time.

Heating is well and truelly on here and I can't make any excuses for it. It is so cold. I don't mean cold as in I can't walk around in t-shirts and no socks cold I mean sat here in onesie, thermal socks and dressing gown with a cuppa and can still feel it cold.

I've opened the curtains only part way round the bay window. the sides and some of the front are covered, 6 panes of glass, so hopefully help keep a bit cold out. I'm contemplating leaving the dining room patio door ones permanently closed. It will be darker but...

Off I go to ravelry, I'm after some crochet/knitting inspiration. :) Edit: I found it. Using the Kemps wool lucky bag bag wool from a while ago... chunky red. Making a cowl for my red work uniform. ;)

  • GQ, thanks for the mention, I seem to be getting a lot of cold callers ATM.
Our heating has clicked on here even though it's on the lowest setting, so it must be cold out.
I've read The Long Winter, I used to have all the LIW books, much less sacchrine that the TV show.
Half term here & hubby's booked the week off so I have him around all week, it will be nice as we've not seem much of each other whilst he's been on late shift for so long.

Have just woken up and found the house rather warm. OH put the heating on a timer for 30 mins, mmmmmm nice n snuggly. He just rang to check I and DD17 are ok. Hes frozen cold, but will be home around 1 today.

Had a rare treat last nite, we went and bought fish and chips to share from the village chippy. There were so nice. DD is going to make little cakes today, I hope she manages to clear up tho!!

I love The Long Winter, and I have The Children's Blizzard , a factual (very sad) account of a real winter in the 1880s that Laura Ingalls Wilder maybe used as inspiration for the book - or maybe she lived through it, I don't know.
They say here not to burn pine as it coats the chimney and also it sparks like hell, if you have an open fire then you need a fireguard up all the time.
I love the sound of a piemaker ginny - never used to liek pies but now find them quick and easy and no cooking required :)
Beautiful white frosty sunny morning here so far.

Hust opening the curtains, theres a bit of sunshine and the wind is blowing hard. Now going to change the bedding :-) that will save on the tumble dryer.

Fuddle you will love The Long Winter

GQ Take care out there and stay warm

It is cool here this morning but clear skies and the sun is out.
I am starting to feel better, so hopeful this flu is disappearing.

I have Lentil and Veggie Stew in the slow cooker for tea tonight, found it on Pinerest it smells lovely will do some crusty bread rolls to go with it.
Trying to make some meals without meat that are filling.
Going to try for three days a week without meat.
Food is going up so much so trying to see if this helps.

Hope you are all staying wrapped up and warm.
For the peeps who have snow take care when you go out.:)

Its bright and beautiful here but very cold, no snow either. Loads of frost though. Car window stayed shut thankfully. :)

Have to do the big shop today :( I would much rather do it during the week but it just hasnt been possible this week. Kids are back at school this week so I need packed lunch stuff etc.

Mum has offered to come sit with the kids while I go but have decided to leave DD with them instead, having mum here all week has been hard and am looking forward to us having our own space back today, OH at work and DS14 at sleepover so it should be quieter and more chilled. Will race about tomorrow getting sorted for school.

I emptied the washing basket Thursday, its overflowing today, OH said that as the basket was empty he decided to change the kids beds - they didnt need changing, neither did any of the bathroom mats need doing but apparently the empty basket means he feels he should fill it:mad:
I like an empty basket, I now have four more loads to do that dont really need doing:eek:

ETA - Mr T on the world food aisle are selling big bags (2kg) of lentils for £2, but on the normal aisle the regular 500gm bags are £1.99.
