  • Hi Laura

£200 is our budget for 2 aswell (plus the cat!) - it is a very reasonable budget (although I know people can do it for less).

The batch cooking is a great idea if you have time - I wish I could do more, but I tend to make double when I make meals like cottage pie, bolognaise etc and freeze the extra portions.

Well done on a great start though.

Thanks MCI.. really enjoying the benefits of batch cooking at the moment so will plan to have a big weekend of batch cooking next weekend. The only problem is I am running out of tubs and zip lock bags to put all the food in!!!

Thank god it is Friday :j:j:beer::beer: This is the last friday of only having a £15 contribution coming in for the food shopping from the bf, next Friday will be February and the joint shopping budget will be in full swing together with the repayments for the loan (to clear his mortgage arrears) and also the contribution to my bills. :j:j:j

I know I shouldn't wish the time away but really looking forward to seeing the back end of January!!

Morning all, last week in January ... Woohooo!!

Cheque cleared over the weekend taking the savings total up by around £230 (i pinched £40!) Total now £59,786.83 and hopefully on the rise again soon!!!:j:j

Money wise...not too much spent...£10 on Friday night (out for a meal at a cheapy 2 4 1 place and a couple of glasses of pop!). Saturday £5 spent as we went out for breakfast and then £23 spent in Asda on stuff for making sushi (saturday night entertainment!) so took this as more of spending money rather than food shopping.
The bf is ill so we popped to M0rrisons yesterday to buy some bits and peices like tissues, lemsip etc and ended up spending again around £23.

So that means in total we have spent over £100 for the week.

Big food shop last wednesday - £63
Bulk pack of Chicken Breasts - £20 (to be fair these will last us a fair bit into feb)
    M0rrisons top up shop - £23

absolutely :mad:RIDICULOUS:mad:....I refuse to let us spend this much money on food shopping.

Meal plan is completed for February. I now need to go through and make lists of all the stuff we need and in what order. I will then do various food shop's this weekend to try and get the best prices (aldi first then M0rrisons / Asda) and then ideally just need a little top up shop every week for Milk, fruit and additional bits and peices.

The Budget is £50 per week / £200 Per month (on the 5 week months I will allow a little more but will still try to aim for the £200 for the whole month.

Apart from that not much else to report...quite a quiet day yesterday and back to the grindstone today....is it Friday yet??!!!

Santander 123 cashback payment received today so that is another £4.89 on to the savings....really scraping the barrel now!!

Hurry up Thursday (payday) and I can do all the money shuffles!!

Not much else to report...the bf is still ill so am playing nurse to him ensuring he has enough lempsips and sympathy to see him through :eek:...he keeps telling me he is dying...man flue!!!

Went to asda last night... didn't buy anything but scoped out some of there storage containers for freezing bulk meals. The zip lock bags i have are very good for lunches but not quite big enough for batches of curry, bolognese etc. They were about £1.50ish for 4 so will go back and get them at some point (hopefully before the weekend as I am planning some serious batch cooking this weekend).

Have you ever been the the Chinese supermarket just off junction 6? They do big packs of the takeaway containers (50s) for about £6-£7. I buy one of these a year and they last really well and are ideal for portioning up bolognaise, chilli, cottage pie etc...
