Morning all .... well I suppose that is Monday morning done for another week!!

Nice day yesterday, went shopping and spent another £30 of my birthday money, another top, some hair dye and make up and some bits in b&m's.

Now I have £30 left and £40 in vouchers.

My first upload registered in S&S which entitled me to a £10 voucher straight off! Opted for B&Q as i want to get some paint soon to do the hall. Paint is about £25 i think.

Waiting for VO to update, should be up to £20 not but am currently not updated and stuck on £18.25. However it is saying that the amazon vouchers are not currently available. This is what I was going to go for so may hold out anyway, anyone know how long they have been out of action??

busy busy week at work...not really enjoying it very much at the moment but theres only 1 thing to do about that.....!!!

Happy start to the week everyone...lets hope the weekend comes round fairly quickly!!!
    xx

  • Sounds like a good haul Laura - what will you use the turkey mince for? We're not too imaginative it in our house, typically just burgers, spicy mince or chili.

I know its going back a few days, but just caught up...

Another idea for turkey mince - mix with a pack of value stuffing and an egg. Make meatballs - cook and serve with onion gravy, mash and veggies - very warming meal.

Then went to town and bought 2 tops with some birthday money, with my student discount they came to around £23 and a few bits from £land.

Then we decided to go out for tea last night which was not planned but I covered out of my birthday money ... i'm convincing myself it is for enjoying myself not just to buy things with!

Birthday money is definately to be enjoyed whether that's by going out or buying stuff.

PS Nice stash of meat in the freezer now.....

Indeed, I normally get my meat from morrisons but have been told that the butchers can be a lot cheaper than supermarkets so will be investigating them once my stock has gone down!

NSD day yesterday and should be again today as well.
That is good as I have no weekly money left so whatever i would buy would come out of my birthday money!
Looking forward to pay day next week, should have a nice lump sum to go over to the savings account!

The idea of trying to move my weekly money back a day each week until I get to a Friday is not going well...Petrol is looking ok, but I am out Thursday night from work and will def not last until Friday, so think I will need to fill up on Wednesday as per usual.

Expensive week coming up as a meal out on Friday night planned and Monday night for my moms birthday. The night out on Thursday is courtesy of work so no expense there. Also need to buy my moms birthday pressie. Will list budget below but should be ok seeing as I am well stocked up on meat.

Hi there Version2014, the main reason for me to try to save as opposed to OP was that its not a long term home for me, it was a way on to the property ladder but I would like to rent the flat out in a couple of years.

I am due to come into a considerable amount of money (60kish) within the next couple of years and my plan is to save on my own to clear the first buy element so i can then pay it off in order to rent it out and keep as much of that 60k as possible towards our family (not quite 'forever' but our 'for a good while') home. (I would OP on this property btw!)

If I was planning to stay in the flat long term I would overpay the mortgage and then when the time to re-mortgage came, I would re-mortgage to include the first buy element (just under 20k in my case).

The other thing that I worked on was that I am able to OP £500 on my mortgage per month, however at the moment I am not able to save that much, so I figured if ever the situation changes, i could then drip feed some of what I have saved up into the mortgage and essentially 'catch up' with my savings in not too long.

Basically it is just the flexibility that saving gives me that is why I opted to OP rather than save.

% wise I would be better off OP'ing but not drastically. Mortgage is 3.9% and savings rate is 3.2%.

let me know what your MFW blog is called and I will follow it! Hope you are enjoying your new home:):)

Hey, I am hoping to set up my MFW blog on here tonight...I am also setting up my own website blog on the subject..which I will put adverts on to hopefully earn some £££ from the adverts!

I read with interest your posts. Like you longterm, I want to move into a house and rent the flat out or sell it and move on..Just a first step on the scary property ladder.

The options I see it are - over pay as much as possible for 5 years, whilst the government bit is interest free.

I spoke to my bank, and if I can double pay every month from month 1 - the mortgage would be cleared in 7 years and 9 months. Wow!!!

That would still leave the government bit - and of course working out how to overpay it every month!

The other option is to save - but I can't find savings which would earn me more than what the mortgage % is.

Of course buying again also means savings for legal fee's and deposits eeek - roll on lottery win!

Whats this shop scan thing..you have got in?

Looking forward to learning from each other fellow MFW and Governemt first time buyer person ;-)
