I know it's a pain but payinbg your mortgage a month early is better, the sooner you start the sooner you finish.

I wouldn't make a token payment in the first month either, unless it is very small, reason for this is it takes awhile to figure out a new budget for a new house and getting settled ect.If you have a huge surplus at the end of the month maybe split it in 2 and half to savings half to op just be sure not to leave yourself short.

I know...that is what i was thinking! I would of just like to have got the savings as near to £1k as possible before moving in...ho hum not the end of the world!!

I am going to work out a bit of a savings plan...what i am due in from various people and what potentially i should be able to save.

Good news is I dont have to pay the maintenance charge of £80pm until January so that is already £320 towards the fund.

will have a tot up and post my plan!!

My savings target is for September 2012 - December 2012.

£15.40 - have budgeted £40 pm for virgin but the first 6 months it is £15.40 less so that can be saved.

£14.00 - I have over budgeted council tax as when bf moves in (January) i will pay more. Until then that is a £14pm which can be saved.

£80.00 - Maintenance, paid up to January on completion so that money can be saved every month.

£75.00 - Surplus wages, once everything including weekly spending is allocated, this is what is left - this can be saved.

So that is £184.40 per month - 4 months is £737.60
(Sept - Dec although Aug - Nov wages - paid last day of month)

    +

    £150 - Owed by sister

    +

Salary should go up by £1k in October...should equate to an extra £40-£50 take home so that can be saved.

The definate savings are £887 + current savings balance. However I want a challenge so I am going to put my target at £1300 with a view to increasing to £1500 if I seem to be making some good savings.

Target is to have £1300 in savings account by Xmas.

I have over estimated all my utility bills as Quintwins rightly says I wont know for definite those until I move in. I based my figures on my sisters 3 bed semi so should be well within budget. There is around £70 per month difference in the figures I have budgeted to what I think / hope they will be, in which case this money will also be saved!!

Also not sure when my bills will start coming through, the developer apparently take meter readings and pay the first bills, then they will write to me to set up the SO/DD's going forward. If i get the first month without bills that would be a nice boost to savings account!

    4 days to go :j:j

Sooo looking forward to the bank holiday weekend and wont be sad when it is over as it will mean it is completion day!!!!

Have earmarked some good buys...a white tv for the bedroom which I had budgeted £150 for having found one in argos for that price. It is now reduced to £129.99 and when you include my £20 gift card for argos (to apologise for slow delievery on some other items) it means I will get the tv with £40 off....almost saving a third!!!:D:D

Also I have been after a nice bin, as open plan kitchen, lounge I want a nice looking cream one that will blend into the background. Had budgeted £50 as that seems to be the going price...but have found one again in argos for under £20 :D:D

Reserved both items and will be going to collect tomorrow - total £130 out of a budget of £200 :j:j

A NSD yesterday and will be the same today hopefully. Going to have the discussion tonight about what money we can all expect out of the house sale, so whilst it will not affect me in the short term, it will mean I know what to plan for for our next house....getting slightly ahead of myself, planning the next move before even moved into the flat!!! oh well...i like to have something to plan for!!!

Shopping with my sister tomorrow to get all the last bits for the flat, things like lightshades, the reserved items, toilet roll holder etc etc!! Possibly some Ikea hot dogs as well ;):D

out with bf's step brother and wife tomorrow night, shouldnt be too expensive as I am driving, hoping for under £30.

Then sunday will be a day spent cleaning the house we have been staying in all week (bf's sisters as we have been dog sitting) and doing batch cooking. Want to get some meals in the freezer for lunches for the next few weeks and also a couple for the nights next week.

And then Monday will be trying to put together some of the smaller flat pack furniture that I have bought...stuff that can be made and then taken over to the flat in my car, so only bedside table type things....just to try to reduce the amount needed to do next week. I also want to varnish the tv unit and nest of tables...a lovely wood but reviews said you need to varnish them otherwise they will mark terribly.

Also going to try to decide what to do about the blinds / curtains. Def want a roller blind for in the bedrooms, as well as decorative curtains in the main bedroom, but I am unsure weather to have curtains in the lounge / dinner area as well as or instead of blinds...think I might leave that one till I get in there. No rush as 1st floor and as long as the bedrooms are sorted then I don't mind.
I do like everything to be done at once, but I suppose at least waiting will mean I can make a decision when all my furniture is in and see what it looks like!!

So think that is all my plans for the weekend....might do a list later as there are a more things that I need to do on Monday than can remember...the other weekend when I put down a list kept me quite focused!!

Hope everyone enjoys the bank holiday weekend xx

Some good bargains there, it's great when things come in under budget :T.

Have a great time, very exciting for you :j.
