In my opinion, such as it is, Christmas cards should only be sold in two months - December and January, to buy in January when they are extremely inexpensive.:o:o Actually I once bought some in July but that was from approved food and they were desperately inexpensive for very good quality cards. Also I buy all my gift wrap for the year (or so!) on Boxing Day. Matalan always mark down their gift wrap massively on Boxing Day. Last year I bought eleven rolls of 4m good quality generic gift wrap for £1 per roll and the quality is really good. I haven't run out yet
Well done on getting a lunch break. It is completely necessary.
LW - hope you are okay tonight - and yes, the profanity filter is a challenge. Not that I would ever, ever find out(and if you believe that...)
I've got rid of one bag of rubbish from the junk room. This is sadly inadequate. However I am going to settle down and knit. Obviously the best way to make some more space is to get rid of all the yarn, and by 'get rid' I mean 'use up'. I have actually eaten something, now waiting to see what happens.
Thank you for the hugs, and lots of hugs back to allAnkh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Well this weather is a disaster. It's more like April showers at the moment. Last couple of nights we have had the heating on as well!!
I got my boots rehealed and a pair of shoes need re-soleing so I popped into the cobblers and had a nice chat with him. He said initially things were really busy for him as people were repairing shoes, but he said things have tailed off again! He said luckily he only pays a small rates/overheads and because his premises are small he can survive that way. He said it is very noticeable that people in general just do not have the money and even other traders who speak with him have said the same.
Popped into Monsoon - they have their sale on - but it was all a bit flower power and naff to me! Still what is my poison might be someone elses paradise but spent zilch.
Went to Lidl's on the way home and picked up mainly fruit and veg. Noticed Anthea Turner in todays press is bemoaning now having to shop at Lidl's as things are tight for her! Welcome to the real world Anthea some of us have been doing this years and not through choice either!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Got back from hospital. Nurse thinks I've still got a UTI, which is why I keep falling.:( Sent me for a blood test and urine test, course I couldn't go could I? HAd to go and have a coffee and drank wate3r while waiting for the blood test. Managed a bit in the end. Went to town, crossed the raod and BANG, down I went again. People picked me up, bloodied both my knees and ankle, had to wash my trousers when I got home. Got a cab back and am feeling sore again.
My hairderesser has just rung and told me to come and have my roots done, so I'm going over in a minute.
Feeling very sorry for myself at the moment!

Afternoon all! Not been posting lately as OS seems a lost cause just now...
Hilstep, so sorry to hear about your various falls - do hope they find the right cause shortly.
Today would have been my dear Dad's 97th birthday! Still miss him loads after 23 years, and wonder how he'd have found life these days.
Not been doing much at all of late - so little motivation. DH not well, and having loads of tests for nasties... Must get myself in gear as life is just sliding away..
Am watching more tennis than for some years past - good excuse for just sitting!
Anyway - wishing you all well, and will try to pop back a bit more often!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
Hilstep I could weep for you, with all these falls you're having.:( Not sure how a UTI causes falls, but I'm perfectly prepared to believe that it can - I just have very little knowledge of human biology! Let's hope it clears up fast so that you can remain upright when you want to. (((gentle hug))).If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

just noticed you talking about my fav subject, christmas!! we go all out at christmas as we are fairly careful all year. i have a sealed tin and put money in there every month. what i think i will spend - divided by 10 months, its ready to come out in october pay day. have got all my stocking fillers apart from the choc and then all my christmas eve goodies for them to open too. so now im just saving the money each month - its a little lower than it should be though - and doing my asda card, currently standing at 60 and i want it to be 144 so nearly where i should be for this time of year. i work all though the year so we dont have to put it on the credit card like we used to. then if we want to have 20 pounds each in the sales the money should be there so that we still dont have to use the credit cards.
now all i have to do is spend less on my shopping!!:eek:0 -
Some great ideas there wuvvies0

(this post co-authored by evil cat who is trying to sit on the keyboard)
Hilstep & LW - my uncle had an undiagnosed water infection last year. It went unnoticed due to the other stuff he was on (like warfarin) until he basically collapsed. UTI's are a massive cause of confusion and problems in the elderly (though I doubt either of you fall into that category).
My uncle was in hospital for some time as he had breathed in huge amounts of stuff from the carpet etc in trying to get up and failing, so had pneumonia as a side effect and now has to be really careful. As you get a little older it is something you really need to look out for. There have even been (anecdotal) people who have been considered borderline dementia and really it has been the UTI.
All I know is that my uncle was incredibly confused, thought he had been walking around when he hadn't, completely misjudged how long he had been in hospital and was impossible to talk with as he was away with the fairies. This wasn't the pneumonia, that was relatively easy to sort. So I guess falls for a UTI are incredibly possible(smiley brought to you by the incredibly recluctant co-operation of evil cat. I am off to feed her)
Hilstep - hope you feel better soon. Also, diet coke works as an extremely good diuretic for me. Also laxative. Probably not a good idea with infectionsAnkh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0
