Left emplyment to go for new job but new job was a nonsense

Hi Folks
I left my lecturing part time 3 day per week job to go for a job working for a well known restaurant chain after being head hunted by the head of HR there. Was told I was gonna be on 30k per year doing a Gen. Managers job only to discover the hours were way more, the work times meant I couldnt see my kids at all, the pay was 7k less and they wouldn't give me a copy of the contract. I would have been working twice as many hours for 200 GBP less pay per month. I cannot go back as my ex employer has not rescinded my resignation letter (I asked HR specifically)
I was told none of this before I started and basically given the sugar coated view of the post. My view is that no money is worth not being able to see my children and more to the point I wouldn't have been able to sustain my home or bills on the final amount I would have been getting.
So I've signed on.
My question is, how do I make my case clear to the dole office? I intend to get a job in education again but need help in the mean time. I hope people will help with advice and things like that, it's been 15 years since I was unemployed. I have a mortgage to contend with, kids staying with me and bills.
TIA
Chris.

Couldn't you have waited until you found another job instead of walking out? It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Surely £23K per year (the promised £30k less the £7k) would be considerably more money than benefits? I'm really suprised if you would be able to claim without sanctions for quitting a job just because you don't get to see much of the children.0

First it's not the dole office, its job centre plus.
Second you will have to state the truth, they will contact your ex-employer and if they say a different story they will write back to yourself asking for more details. This will go back and forth until the decision maker decides whether or not you should of quit your job and if you are entitled to job seekers allowance.0 -
Oh & the 'dole office' won't pay your mortgage.0

Well to be honest JCP will pay the interest or help towards the interest on the morgage but only after being out of work for more than 13 weeks.
I wouldn't take that risk you could lose your home way before then. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
It's all very well for all those replies coming in saying the OP should have stayed and looked for another job. Myself, I would be infuriated that the employer has been deceitful and cheated me by paying a salary of less then 7K as agreed plus working additional hours. Personally after being ripped off and lied to by them I wouldn't want to work for that employer again. There is a thing called pride & dignity you know.
Oh and good luck with your claim for JSA OP. have you got anything in writing that states you were going to get 30k a year when you infact got 23k?0 -
Thank you all for your replies,
Just to answer a few of these replies
1. if you took me seriously with the dole office thing then please move along, it was tongue in cheek and if you're gonna stick around then please refrain from being pointless *sigh*
2. Im also a taxpayer and have been for a long time (like you) and am therefore aware.. cheers for that. I didnt SEE $$$ i saw £££ wrong nation... and i saw an opportunity to work for an organisation that recognised my skills but who LIED to me.
3. It was economically viable as not only would I be paid LESS, and substantially so it would have meant increased child maintenance payments compounding the problem on top of not seeing my children, which if you hadn't already guessed is important to me, and if that aint part of my calculations then money is far more important than people...pffft
4. I've tried arranging with my employer for my old job back, might be able to go back part time hourly. Which I would accept
I am well aware of the sanctions the system puts in place cheers, I was looking for advice not sanctimonious preaching. If you think I'm a scrounger then you're confusing me for some whole other body.
Thanks.0 -

Nope it was through a friend who was the head of HR for the company (no longer a friend of course) she sat in my front room and quoted me figures...felt good at the time and I was motivated to do it, move on and do something new and exciting. Except the truth wasn't what she said...
and as for the mortgage thing, I'll be able to keep up with the mortgage in time, and if one of the previous posters here thinks it takes 13 weeks to lose a mortgage? I would dearly love to see their evidence.
Im not thick about this, I came here for genuine advice. Im critical enough of myself without the 'help' of anyone else.0 -

Could be difficult then, from experience dealing with a DM over a benefit claim, if it ends up your word against the employers,The DM without any evidence will always side with the employer0 -

Tell them the truth. Then it is down to the decision maker.
I know you must be frustrated, but for future reference, you really do not come across very well on this thread.
Good luck.0
