Sainsbury's value soya is actually better than other branded products, with more bean (7%) and no other nonsense. I drink those instead of milk.
I also buy value canned sardines. The cheapest canned fish.0 -
Started buying loads of value items. Shower gel is great for 8p and value bubble bath is good too and makes a good hand wash. Pasta is good i find it needs to be cooked for an extra 2 mins or so. I dont like value tea or the frozen value mince as it smelt like dog meat.
Biscuits, crisps all fine. The market value veg fromm mr t is great.
I buy loads of value stuff now saved loads0 -
Also there value Rose wine is good, its 2.99 for a litre, it is in a carton not a bottle, but is nice and light. I usually get wine on the 3 for £10 but for £8.97 i got 3 litres which is 4 bottles.
nice and light with strawberry flavours0 -
Sainsburys Basics chicken soup - NO. Watery and tastefree - on the other hand does keep you warm for only 17p.. LOLWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
-
Sainsburys basics Popcorn (96p) is great! IMO tastes the same as Butterkist cinema sweet stuff (which is 2p more but has 40g less in - which could be quite alot of popcorn less!)
Sainsburys basics cashew nuts - really good too! (Just be aware there are no whole cashew nuts in the packets we've had - only halves but this doesn't affect the taste!)0 -
Tesco Value Cling Film (food wrap) bit thin but comes off the roll and cuts easily - can't recall exact price but think below £0.50 for 300mm x 45m0

We buy smart price stuff all the time, I always have a look to see if I can see a smart price version of whatever I need whenever I go shopping to try and save the pennies.
Here's some of the things we get all the time:
Smart Price Curry Sauce 5p a jar - can't go wrong
chilli cook in sauce
sweet n sour cook in sauce
spag bol sauce
Toilet rolls
tinned veg..carrots, mushy peas, sweetcorn, kidney beans
tinned tuna
spaghetti loops
baked beans
tinned tomatoes
pasta n sauce
instant noodles
spuds
onions
carrots
peppers
mushrooms
bags of stirfry
flour
ketchup/brown sauce
rice
pasta
washing powder
dog food mixer
frozen sausages
frozen chicken breasts (always sold out though at nearest store)
furniture polish
air freshener
toilet cleaner
bleach
mozzarella
cheddar
butter
low fat spread
lemon curd
jam
peanut butter
ice cream
honey
golden syrup
custard
crisps (ready salted)
instant whip dessert
biscuits...bourbons YUMMY, fruit shorties and jaffa cakes
salad cream
brown bread
coleslaw
stuffing mix
apple sauce
yorkshire puds
mint sauce
gravy granules
dried mixed fruit
eggs
baby wipes
disposable nappies
sausage rolls
cottage pies
fish portions in batter (surprisingly these are quite nice but the smart price fish fingers are tooo "fishy" IFSWIM and a bit off putting)
fish portions in butter sauce
popped into sainsbury's the other day and tried some of their value stuff, don't really shop in sainsburys very often.
basics pepperoni slices (we were making pizza) - yummy!!!!
basics mozzarella (yummy)
toilet roll..loads softer than the smart price version
I've yet to try smart price/basics/value toiletries, shampoo/conditioner/shower gel etc but may try them next time I go.
Basically I'll try anything once and if I don't like it, I havn't lost too much cash, but most of the products I have tried, I have been pleasantly surprised with and have added them to my list of weekly staples. If it wasn't for value/smart price/basics items, I think we would find it extremely difficult on our income to get the basics we need every week.
hi
great post, we usually get Walls frozen sausages £1.99 but we would be willing to try the basics range to save money. As long as they haven't got any grissle. Are they nice?

Hi all.....
Just had the discount brand from Mr T weetabixalike stuff. Actually preferred it to the dear stuff as was more compact.
I bought some Mr T bubble bath....smells just like Radon for about £1.20 cheaper!!!!
I always but value fish in parsley sauce. I had a look on packets between that and Youngs and nutrionally was exactly the same as were ingredietns. Not a huge difference in price maybe 20p but 20p is 20p!0 -
Tesco frozen mince beef, not value but the tesco own brand is foul, cooks down to tiny wee bits of beef and a lot of gristle, I dread to think what the value one is like0
-
I just tried Mr M's Value Jaffa Cakes. I really like these, and prefer them over normal ones, actually. I also love Mr M's Value Noodles.
x Frugalswan xContinually trying the Grocery Challenge. Gotta keep trying!0
