Why don't people say thankyou?

It doesn't bother me - I don't do favours to be thanked.Whatever doesn't kill me, can only make me stronger.

I say thank you to lifts and inanimate objects. What annoys me and OH at the moment is the new Iphone advert where they talk to siri (don't have one so not sure of the name) and they demand all these things but not once do they say thank you or please.
I know it isn't a real person but it still comes across as very rude.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

This sort of basic politeness was drummed into me as a child.
Please and Thank You, Open doors, Step aside to make way for someone, Walk on the outside of the pavement if your companion is a woman or a child, and any number of others.
I get quite embarrased when MrsLA sometimes just marches through as if she always has right of way.:o:cool:0 -

Popped into town today, on each occasion getting off the bus i thanked the driver - always do!
I am building up to saying something soon about the fact my great niece hasn't thanked me for the cheque I sent her for her 21st a few weeks ago. I know it has been cashed and I know she has spent it!0 -
I've just made my children write a thank-you card to a friend of my Mum who sent them some small gifts. The same friend of my Mum no longer sends birthday presents to one set of her grandchildren, since they neglected to say thank you one year. (That'll learn 'em!)
I do the passive agressive "THANK you" or "You're WELCOME!" when holding doors for the ignorant/ rude or catching a door swinging toward my face. Once it backfired, though, as the grump who'd let the heavy door slam onto my baby's pushchair  laid into me about being passive- aggressive :rotfl:.They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

I totally agree that it is important to say thank you when someone does you a small kindness of any kind but:
It is important to consider why people do kindnesses for others, not little things like opening doors but things like paying for others lunch, baking cakes to take into work or generally mothering others.
frequently these fulfil a need in the doer/giver, many people have a need to give and do and when they are not needed in one place they transfer there doing/giving to another person. Sometimes these things are not wanted or needed by the receiver but the giver continues.
So, I think we need to look at ourselves, why we do things, what need it fills in us and how we deal with ourselves and get our gratification.0 -
HonestlY...i have forgotten to say thank you on occasion. I am ashamed about this. When i have realised i have forgotten i always make a point of doing it at a later date, usually with a gift. I always remember to thank for doors opening etc,0
