I think a lot of people are just takers. I also think that some people don't realise the effort involved if it's something they know nothing about. For example, I have found the people who tend to be least grateful about getting a lift are the people who have never driven. I think they just don't realise how much driving costs or how tiring it can be.

I am happy to help people, but I am selective about who I offer my help to. I never just jump in and offer help. I always have a quick think about it and decide what I am happy doing before I say anything.

I have to agree with this post, especially the "takers" bit. An auntie of mine came out with a doozy to my Mam the other week. Apparently it was "I never give, but ALWAYS take" After my Mam had given her some bubble bath stuff for my little cousins. She's also the most ungrateful person I have ever met too, and I don't think I have ever heard her say thankyou to anybody. I've won stuff that she could use, but I refuse to give it to her because of her selfishness.
One of the most annoying things I come across is holding the door open in a shop and about 6 or more people waltz in and not one person says thankyou nor does anybody take the door from you and hold it for then next person. Get's on my thrup'nnies does that one.

This is one of my pet hates, if i've let people out in the car in traffic or stood waiting holding a door open. At times i've even said 'Sorry what did you say' and when they look and say they didn't speak, i'll just say i thought you may have said 'Thank You'.

A staffie followed OH home from his sunday jog at a nature reserve. So we canceled the days plans, contacted dog warden via phone etc.A few hours later the dog warden said a staffie had been reported missing and could we possibly take staffie over to given address to check if it was theirs, or he would collect staffie the next day. OH drives to address, door opens and dog is obviously theirs, they call her by name etc. then they slam the door in OH's face! We were happy staffie was reunited with owners, but a thank you would have been nice for poor OH.

I held the door open in a shop one day for my Mum. Two women walked in front of my Mum, dawdling and talking, oblivious to me holding the door open for them. I just said loudly, 'thats okay, no problem.' :D

I hate it as well when your driving and you let someone in, All it takes is a quick wave of the hand.

I make a point of saying thanks back, winds me up.

Because it would suck the very breath and lifeforce out of them, to acknowledge that someone else has done something of benefit to them.
  • I don't find it bothers me particularly if random strangers don't say thanks if I hold a door open or let them through in the car, as I put it down to them having no manners and see it as their problem. I find it more hurtful when friends don't appreciate it if I do something for them

Although it is even better when my DD who is two says "that yady didn't say fankoo mummy" because she is loud and they can always hear her!

That's happened to me when DS was little, went round the supermarket him playing up all the way round which he never normally did, l was so stressed out and on autopilot coming out some people moved aside to let me through with the trolley and their child said something along those lines, l was mortified.

    Still at least it's a reminder :o

    Happy moneysaving all.
