Hi all, Im off to mainland Spain in October and I want to find a data only PAYG sim once in Spain. Does anyone with more knowlege than I know if this is possible to get once im out there? I obviously want to avoid the crazy roaming prices of my UK provider? Thanks

Are you joking? :) Have you bothered to peruse this very thread?

I went to Ibiza and finished up buying an Orange SIM from a Phone Shop [not an Orange shop] which was sold to me for 20 Euros as a data SIM. However, I found it would not work in my MiFi only in my phone, and I kept getting texts asking me to top it up.

I called in to an Orange shop to ask what the problem was and they told me it was not a data SIM, just a normal one with 1G data allowance.

    A total waste of money!

Really helpful response. Yes ive read the thread but this dates back to last year and a lot of this information will now be out of date so wanted to ensure i had the most up to date info.

Ive also come accross HolidayMobile and wanted to know if anyone has had any dealings with them?

Then don't read the stuff from last year. I should be nice, so I won't write any more than to suggest that you go backward through the thread if reading from the beginning presents a challenge to you.

I'm not sure if that is a warning to avoid that particular shop or to be more careful about how you ask for what you want.

I did ask for a data SIM and they actually fitted and configured it but they obviously didn't fully understand what they were selling..

I see. Most annoying. Did you back to the shop and get them to change it since it was clearly their mistake?

I did, but they claimed not to understand what I was telling them.

I finished up putting it in my phone and make best use I could of it.. I also tried teathering, but that was blocked.

I bought a Spanish data sim before I left for my Mifi from a eBay supplier in Spain, lasted 4 days used for a couple of hours per day just for emails. 1gb of Data for almost £30 makes me wish I had left the wifi ipad at home and stuck with the smartphone using UK roaming.
