MFW August 2023 - unless I get my butt into gear0 -
:mad: Further to my last post, one of the reasons I'm struggling this month is that I've been scammed at the cost of £101.
basically it's the call from India purporting to be from microsoft saying there's a problem with the computer, taking it over if you let them, and then basically saying you need to buy their software/firewall/whatever to protect yourself in future cos McAfee or Norton won't fully protect you. Now I know I was stupid to fall for it, and even at the time my head was telling me it didn't feel right, but they got me on a bad day - can't remember why now but I was mega stressed over something else - I had been having problems with the computer and my OH wasn't there to tell them to get lost ( he understands computer stuff better than me and would've known it wasn't right). Anyway, the upshot was that I paid for whatever it was they said was so essential on my credit card at £99. They downloaded some stuff onto my computer and eventually after about 2 hours of messing around and real pressureI got rid of them.
After a day or two I noticed there was no sound on my computer, talked to my OH and he said I'd been scammed. When I got the cc statement the charge showed up as £101. I have talked to the cc company but admitted that it was me who authorised the charge so I didn't think I could get the money back and just put it down to experience. It has since cost another £60 having the computer completely wiped and reset with everything reinstalled back to basic setting etc. However, I was thinking would I be able to claim under Section 75 refund rules from the cc company as the service I was supposed to be getting was never received? What do people think? Incidentally about 10 days later the same company rang, said that the software wasn't working properly on my computer and they would send me a refund - needless to say I'm still waiting several weeks later.
Sorry if you think I'm hijacking the thread but just wondered if anyone had any advice or could point me in the right direction, as you're all so friendly on here and won't judge me for being stupid:oEvery penny's a prisoner
