    Love this thread!

My mum was once having a barbeque and sent me to Iceland for a 6lb bag of chicken niblets. I came back with a 6lb chicken with giblets!
I must have been at least 18 'cos I borrowed her car to go! :)
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

This was about 5 years ago but.....

It was when Nintendo Wii's were the must have thing for christmas - everywhere had sold out until two days before christmas.

We popped into town and noticed that HMV had them in stock so went there and bought one.

Then figured that our TV was too small to play it on well, so went looking for another TV - arguments between OH & I about the size - he wanted a 47 in one and I said it was too big for the area so we went home to measure then went to another shop where we ended up buying a 50in flat screen which was too big to fit in our car and couldn't be laid flat so a mate got his truck and picked it up and bought it to our house.

We then discovered that the TV cabinet that we had was too small and too low so had to buy another one as well.

All this on christmas eve so we ended up paying out about £2k just because of a wii.

When I was pregnant with my eldest, I was rushed into hospital at 23 weeks in suspected labour. Phoned her dad, and asked him to bring me a few bits in - the list included clean knickers, some jammies, socks, and maternity towels.
He appeared about 2 hours later, with some black lacy thongs, 2 sizes too small, as he thought they'd make me look pretty, two scabby old stained bath towels, a nappy wrapper, and a very pretty outfit for the baby, age 2-3 years.
Luckily, the nurses took pity on me, and gave me some bits until a friend could bring in the stuff I'd asked for!
Just after she was born, I'd sent him to collect the cot, that I'd chosen from Argos and reserved. When he got there, he decided that a cot was a little bit boring, and spotted a lovely bed in the shop next door. It's a shame that the lovely bed was a high-sleeper bunk bed, with a futon underneath. I still don't know where exactly he expected a newborn baby to sleep on that!
Needless to say, when I was pregnant with child number 2, I did all the shopping myself.
  • My bf (age 10) was sent to the shop to get loo rolls which his mum wrote on a list for him as he was scatty.

He returned home with 100 bread rolls and a message from the bakers to place an order next time... :rotfl:

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::T

I went shopping for some curtain fabric one day and ended up buying an entire set of living room furniture :o

Back in the day when landlines were scarce and public payphones were still common, my mum didn't have the right change for the phonebox...

Mum: "Jason, go and ask Shirley next door for ten bob to use the payphone"

Me: "Shirley, my mum said can you give her a tenner to use the phone?" [this being the late 1970s]

Shirley: "Can I heck!" [slams door]

Years ago I bought a house and a brand new car in one afternoon. We had the viewing for the house at 1pm and were so sure about it we put an offer in at 2pm. Got bored hanging around wondering whether the offer would be accepted, so took ourselves off to a car show room just to have a mooch round.

By 6pm that night we had our new car and the offer on the house accepted. I have never ever spent that much money in one day since. It felt amazing though.

7 years later we sold the house and it had nearly tripled in value. The car was still with us and had caused us very little trouble over the years. Considering how little thought and consideration had been applied to either purchase I think we were very lucky indeed.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

We had a horrendous night's camping in a howling gale and nearly got blown into the Atlantic, so we threw everything in the car and came home. The next day my OH decided that what we needed were storm pegs to lash the tent down properly with, so off we popped to nearest camping centre to buy Big tent pegs.

We came home with a caravan.

Been dry every camping trip ever since, it's lasted 19 years and still going strong.

My mum's just informed me that when she had my older sister, she sent my Dad out to get some essentials for the baby before she left hospital. He returned with a teddy bear and nothing else - meaning my Mum and 5 day old sister had to stop into Tesco on the way back from the hospital!

Our former neighbours went out to buy wallpaper to decorate the hall and came home have part exchanged the house and bought a new build - bit of an extreme way to avoid the decorating I thought!!
