My Mum has done something silly like this.

She got up one morning and found the tv wouldn't work. Went into Belfast and got an all singing all dancing telly (from Shop Electric, who also give her up to £5000 to spend in store which she spent over the course of the year helping my brother and me do up our new flats...all paid by now, but massive interest and totally unlike her to get debt).

Anyway when she struggled home that night and got out of her taxi with this massive box, my brother and I were watching tv !!!

Dad had turned the tv off at the wall before he went to bed and there was nothing wrong with the one at home....lol

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:omg that's brilliant!!

I don't really have a story - I went to Home Bargains last week to buy vacuum storage bags, came home having spent £111, and they didn't even have the storage bags in stock.

And that is why I very, very rarely go to HB!:o

A few years ago I picked out some bedroom furniture online, phoned the shop to make sure it was still available then set off to go and buy it. When I got there it was that horrible orange pine and I didn't like it. I chose a replacement set and spent £1,000 more than the £800 I had originally "limited" myself to.

I went to Asda the other day for dog food. Spent over £40 on "stuff". Got home, I had forgotten the dog food!

About 15 years ago when we were in a rented house my DH went to B&Q for some Oil for the car and came back with a bath!! It lived in the loft for a couple of years until we bought our house and he installed it there.

His reason for buying it? I liked the shell design baths and it was reduced!!!

Thanks all - some hilarious tales there!

We have had a few "duh" moments ourselves.

We went to the local supermarket after a weekend away, to get some essentials, and came back with two German Shepherd puppies! There was an advertisement in the vets window, next to the supermarket, for puppies for sale and we made the fatal error of "just going for a look"!

We bought a load (and I mean a LOAD) of fresh fish and realised we had nowhere to store it. So had to buy a freezer. And then when we went to Bejams (remember Bejams, anyone!) and bought some other freezer stuff (cos, yunno, we've got a freezer now, might as well fill it) we couldn't carry it all, so had to go next door to Argos to buy a shopping trolley on wheels to get it home again.

Mother in Law was coming to visit, and DH went to the coach station to collect her. Came home with a very large larder fridge in the car. To be fair, our fridge was on its last legs, and the new one WAS a bargain. He did remember MIL though!

I remember reading on some forum about someone's partner going to Costco for something mundane, and coming back without the thing he went for, but with a canoe strapped to the roof of the car :rotfl:

My Dad's dressing gown was falling to bits so my Mam bought him a new one for Christmas. It didn't fit, so she gave him the receipt and told him to go and swap it. He came back with an electric paint stripper gun instead :rotfl:

Another time he nipped out for petrol and came back with several carrier bags full of food and drink, as he found out he'd won a hamper in a raffle at the petrol station :D
Here I go again on my own....

    Loving this thread!

My Mum has never let me forget the time gave me $1 to get a soda (I was 8/9 and living in the US), and I came home instead with a Revlon nail varnish which was reduced :D
