Does Debt Make You Feel Trapped?
Comments

Like most people here have said i have my ups and downs. Sometimes i feel completely trapped by debt, depressed and sure i will never be DF and able to live the life i dream of.
But other days i not only see the light i can almost touch it.
I think it all depends on what is going on around you and even the time of year it is.Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Johnny Cash

Some days are better than others we all have our ups and downs although lately its more down than up. Most days i wish i could just go to sleep and wake up once its all over.
I always find that when its pay day i usually have a few good days sorting out what i need to pay and feeling as though im putting something towards the debt, however, to sit at work every pay day is torture. Everyone is going out spending money buying themselves lunch, new clothes or makeup and im sitting with my cup a soup and a sandwich not going out cause i know i cant afford to go buy anything.
I sometimes just want to run away from it all
but know deep down its not the right thing to do......
Just need to keep plodding on with it and hope that 2013 will come sooner rather than later
We will all get there in the end it just can't come soon enough

Just remember SS that when if feels like you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, it is only because it is hidden by a bend in it, not because it is not there.

I know there is no quick fix but it's bugging the hell out of me!
I felt worse about my debts when I had no-one to confide in or share my thoughts with, and then I found MSE and it's been a godsend :j :j :j
I'm sick about having run up my debts, but soooo happy that I'm tackling them head on, and cutting down my outgoings without sacrificing too much of my quality of life (mainly been finding better deals on insurance, tv, cable, etc)
I put my tax refund cheque into the bank (not Nastywest who I'm claiming charges from - into my new Yorkshire Bank a/c) That cheque clears tomorrow, so I can get rid of 2 debts and part of my overdraft. Now, that little voice in my head has been saying 'you really need SatNav/a new p.c./new clothes etc' but NO WAY!! I'm going to do everything in my power to get rid of the debts, then I'll have the cash to start making overpayments on my mortgage.
What helps me most is reading the posts and finding out ways of cutting back, and seeing the amazing success people have had in shifting thousands off what they owe. It CAN be done, and I'm determined.

I do feel trapped by my debt..BUT pre lightbulb moment, I felt I was slipping helplessly down a slope with a pool of sharks waiting at the bottom. Now I feel that Im creeping my way back up the hill to freedom (while the sharks snap at my ankles). Its slow but sure.....
If only I had caught on before that hill got so steep :rotfl:Proud to be dealing with my debts :j

I used to deal with my debts by getting more credit, robbing Peter to pay Paul, & stuffing the unopened letters in a drawer or just shredding them. The result is that I've been in big debt for many years, even though I've been paying out towards most of them for all that time. I never felt trapped by actually owing money itself. I only started to feel trapped when I couldn't meet the monthly payments.
The last month or so is the first time I've actually felt that I'm doing something concrete about my debts. Though I first spoke to the CCCS months ago, I'm only now just about to take their advice (bankruptcy) because I've realised that I can't deal with my debts on my own - if I could have, I'd have done so years ago. :embarasse
Thanks to forums like this one & finally opening the post, I now realise that it's not a crime or a social defect to be one of those people who can't handle credit & is better off dealing with cash. You don't become one of the great unwashed or a leper just because you don't have a credit card! I've still got a long way to go, but that light at the end of the tunnel that once indicated a fast-approaching train is slowly starting to look like a ray of sunlight.

My road isnt as long as some peoples, but it feels just as high, my DFD is 14/8/2009, 2 days short of my 36th birthday, my plan is to try and chop a year off it, and im sure with careful DFW ways i can do it.
CSA money from my ex partner will help, after waiting for what seems like forever i should have my first payment from his attachment of earnings through by the end of the month, this will hopefully give me an extra £60 a week to throw at something.
The old me would have rejoyced and probably spent it in with the weekly shopping budget or bought DD some new clothes, as it is she doesnt really need anything. Weve made it this far without it, im going to use it to pay off the CC with.*Spendi*

I must admit I did used to feel very trapped. Then I found MSE and realised that there was other people out there like me. Since joining you guys, I've paid off Vanquis, will be paying Next off this week and hopefully half of my Argos Card (thanks to you lot encouraging me to reclaim charges). I've joined quidco and earned just over £300 and I've started saving £2 and got over £50. I do therefore feel that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Yes, I get bad days when I want the debt-thing to be finished, but the inspiration and encouragement I get here is second to none.
If I ever feel tempted to go out on a spending spree, I log on and it seems to get me past the 'shopping moment'.0 -
Debt does make us feel trapped.
I liked the comment about there being a bend in the tunnel so not seeing the light.
I would love to move house, but we have decided to clear our debt first the hard way so we learn the lesson rather than use the equity in the house/get a larger mortgage. So 3 - 4 years maybe - will I hate this house by then? lol
Things will get better SS xxxProud to be dealing with our debts - We WANT to be debt free DEC 09
