Oh dear, we hit the RFQS section in Tesco today and the total bill was £119 :eek::eek::eek: Hopefully we won't need much next week. Today's other spends were £12 on lunch in Wetherspoons and £11 for a bag of Just Grass at the tack shop - my copra hadn't arrived and I was going to run out before their next delivery unless I started cutting it with something to eke it out a bit. I was hoping for grass pellets, this is a chop, but Merlin seems to like it - he tried to storm the feed room to get the bag after he'd finished his supper :rotfl: Finn is less convinced, but I think it wasn't soaked quite enough for him.
In other horsey news, the grey Highland pony I would have 100% bought two years ago if she hadn't turned out to be in foal has been put back up for sale again by her owner. I need to win the lottery!!0 -
Two empty buckets this morning
Merlin's feet have improved dramatically with the forage balancer, but he's not quite there yet and my farrier suggested something like Stockholm tar to help clear up the last lingering bits of thrush, but said don't buy Stockholm tar because they don't make it properly thick enough. So after a good rummage around the internet, I decided that Red Horse Field paste would probably be my best bet, but haven't got round to ordering it because it's been an expensive month and next month's a bit squeaky with the budget. It struck me last night that I've still got most of a jar of manuka honey in the tack shed left over from treating M's looked-a-bit-like-a-sarcoid lump (got rid of it!) and since it was a) sticky and b) is supposed to have anti-bacterial properties, it wouldn't do any harm to give it a try.
So one very bemused horse had his headcollar put on and was tied up on the rubber mats in his field shelter while I washed his feet ("That TICKLES, Mum!") and then smeared honey liberally into his frogs and heels. He was actually very good about it, the central sulcus on his right fore is still a little sore, so I need to get right in there with some of Mr Minx's rifle-cleaning swabs and antibacterial stuff, which he's probably going to object to fairly vigorously.... (Merlin, not Mr Minx!)
I ran just over six miles at lunchtime and would have gone further, but I forgot to take a water bottle to put on my gatepost, so dehydrated myself a bit. Should have cleaned the house, but didn't
- I had a nice long shower instead and then settled down to my proofreading, which has taken ages today. It started off well with a very interesting three and a half hour interview with the founders of a peer-to-peer lending company, but five hours of focus groups on hot drinks had me struggling a bit. Had a break for supper and Top Gear and have not long finished - think I've made about £27.50 though, so not a bad start to the week's finances. 0 -
Only you could have such a varied and interesting post

Well, I'm not sure if it was revenge for the honey yesterday, but the big yellow donkey trod on my toe as he came in for his hay this morning - normally he gives me plenty of space as he goes through his field shelter entrance, but today he brushed right up against me and didn't even flick an ear at the yell as he nonchalantly crushed my right big toe into the matting on his way through!
A busy-ish day. Two files from the agency to proofread, an hour's work for Mr RPC and 27 orders to send. I also called the card processor and payment gateway for my website to cancel the accounts - one put the order through straight away and the other (fortunately the card processor, which is £10 a month rather than £30) said I needed to give them 30 days' notice, so I've emailed the required details to their cancellations department.0 -
Huh. Into the office this morning to find an email from the payment gateway people, confirming my account closure and saying that as I have to give three months' notice they would be debiting my account £75+VAT next month before cancelling the direct debit. They didn't mention that on the phone! I have dug out the paperwork and unfortunately the notice period is in the contract, so no-one to blame but myself and, to be fair, they've backdated my notice to 31st December and are only charging me until 31st March when they could quite legitimately bill me until 26th April.
Right, today's jobs:- Laundry (one load in already)
- Change the bed linen
- Pack and post orders (£200 banked this morning thanks to someone spending £110 on 200 charm bracelets)
- Attempt to floss Merlin's central sulcii with Mr Minx's gun-cleaning swabs (I fear this may not go well....)
- Library van
- Run 4 miles

Meant to add a quick business YNAB update - the VAT bill money is now all allocated as well as the tax bill money, I need to put about another £50 aside for my estimate of this month's eBay fees, then £527 for the Royal Mail bill due on 11th, £150 for phone, website, card processor and gateway fees mentioned above and then everything else for February can be split between paying off the overdraft, paying me, filling the March buffer (I always mistype that!!!) and putting some aside for the May VAT bill.0

Ouch on all accounts! Hope your toe is ok. At least you know the score with notice and owings so you can now get on with it and then it's done. Have a lovely day.Debt - CCV £3792

Right, today's jobs:
- Laundry (one load in already) - only one load done, too windy for it to go out, so the indoor lines are crammed.
- Change the bed linen - done
- Pack and post orders (£200 banked this morning thanks to someone spending £110 on 200 charm bracelets) - done
- Attempt to floss Merlin's central sulcii with Mr Minx's gun-cleaning swabs (I fear this may not go well....) - done, with surprisingly little Riverdancing!
- Library van - done, only four books though
- Run 4 miles - got a bit overenthusiastic in mile 3 and so had a 'damn it, that's enough' moment when I got level with my driveway at 3.5 miles!
