  • I'm sitting here shivering because it's such a lovely morning up here that the dog is pottering happily round the garden and I have the annexe door open. Anyway, some scores on the doors:

    Business
    Overdraft: -£-8418.16 / -£8488.24 -£70.08

    Business total: -£8418.16 / -£8488.24 -£70.08

    Personal
    Egg card: -£5170.00 / -£5035.00 +£135.00
    Barclaycard: -£2295.00 / -£2295.00 no change
    Nationwide card: -£2455.00 / -£2455.00 no change

    Personal total: -£9920.00 / -£9785.00 +£135.00

    Grand total:18,338.16 / -£18,273.24 +£64.92

Having re-set my YNAB I'm now wondering whether I should concentrate on paying down debt or filling my buffer first. I think buffering is probably the way forwards, as I'm not certain I'm going to be able to pay myself in full on 1st March at the moment....

oh definitely ok to sell if nobody claims! :)

Good to hear ponies are doing well.
  • I've been brave and re-set the business YNAB as well. I've cheated a little bit by making the pre-YNAB debt overdraft £10,000 and then entering the available £1511.76 as income as I can't afford not to use it this month. I'm OK until the 27th of this month, then it goes pear-shaped, but there's lots of banking to do between now and then, so fingers crossed.

I also took a leaf out of EssexHebridean's book and checked where we are with the electricity bill today. As far as I can figure out, we're about £88 in credit, but that's using the per unit prices off the last bill and I have a horrible feeling there was a price rise in November. Scottish Hydro doesn't seem to publish the details of its THTC tariff online  and we can't switch from it without having the whole electrical cabinet rewired, so there's not a lot we can do, but at least we're not going to get a horrible surprise next month like we did last year when they put us up from £103 a month to £172

  • Spoke too soon on the horse front, Finn the pony is limping on his right fore :( After a good feel around, he seems to have a sore area a few inches below the elbow, so my guess is that he's either strained a muscle pulling that foot out of the mud or slipped in the field. He was better on it when I went back down this evening - he's not doing a big 'ouch' reaction with it, he's just taking shorter steps with that leg, as if he doesn't want to stretch it out as far. Hopefully time and rest will sort him out without needing the vet.

Thanks to multibuys and coupons, we managed to take £24 off the weekly shop today.

I'd hoped to get some more items on eBay, but ended up cleaning the house and catching up on my equine nutrition course instead. Passed the third week with a score of 19 out of 20 on the assessment :D eBaying is definitely on tomorrow's list though.
  • Well done on the shopping saves - gives you a wave from over the water.

I'm admiring the holiday plans - from this far up north everything has arms and legs on it with travel doesn't it.

    Hope the hoss's are ok.

    :)
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Oh doesn't it just??? I suspect flying Wick -> normal airport is nearly as expensive as Kirkwall -> normal airport. We're a bit more fortunate in that we can drive to Inverness and get to London that way, but by the time you've factored in 3 hours each way in the car plus airport parking (it's free at Wick) then with the ADS card it's almost the same and you might as well go the easy way via Edinburgh or Aberdeen!
    Hope the hoss's are ok.

    :)

Touch wood, Finn is a lot better this morning thank you :D

All Tuesday's eBay items are coming to an end and I've sold a grand total of 2 out of 24 so far. Oh well, it's £10.98 (less costs) I didn't have before I suppose and a bit less clutter in the house. I've listed a few more books this afternoon, but my heart isn't really in it - I'll probably re-list what doesn't sell later and leave it for today.

I've packed a few orders this morning, but at the moment it's looking worryingly quiet for tomorrow's mail out.

On the plus side, I finally got round to plugging all the numbers into my friend's lifetime finances spreadsheet and it looks as if we'll be OK, thank to Mr Minx's rather healthy pension schemes. If he leaves me, I'm stuffed though, so that needs addressing!
  • Sales down a bit this week, but today's bankings mean that I can pay Royal Mail on the 26th. Now working on the supplier payment due on the 27th.

I've spent this afternoon applying for a self-employed transcription job. The company seems reputable, as far as I can tell from checking them out. I've passed the typing test and I've passed the proofreading and grammar test. The next step is submitting a CV and providing a reference - I'm just waiting to hear if my chosen referee will agree to doing it, as the company requires a reference from 'your last employer' and of course that was eight years ago!

If they do take me on, it's £25 per audio hour. I can't actually remember what I charged when I did it freelance, but it wasn't dissimilar. Four hours of tape a week would be a big, big help right now.
