have a good look at the stitching and try to identify whether its cotton or polyester thread. if the dress is linen and washable my bet is that its cotton. in which case it should dye to the same or similar colour as the fabric.
If the thread is synthetic, then the dye must be able to dye synthetic fabrics as well as cotton/linen. you MAY get a variation in colour but it shouldnt be noticable.
    good luck!

we do have a mega dyeing thread which has loads of peoples past experience as well. I tend to fly by the seat of my pants so i would try it and see how it goes (knowing i could ruin it!!)

let us know what you do and ill merge this later

  • thanks for the reply.
have had a look through the thread and a good look at the dress, it has stitching round the outside (as a pattern) and is lined with polyester, so have decided just to leave it.
many thanks again for both replies, I could have gone and ruined it !!

    :)

    Hi folks,

Was all set to throw out some white towels that despite my best laundry efforts are just colour-wise past their best. Despite this they are all very soft and absorbant after years of use. So I have decided that this is a silly idea.

Has anyone succesfully dyed towels? My bathroom is white , grey and black so was thinking grey. Do I need more dye than usual?

    Thanks :D

I've used Dylon"wash & dye" in the washing machine on towels without any problems. The pack has a max weight of fabric, so weigh carefully.

Yes I have done this several times, we have serial hair dyers in my house so light colour towels are always getting stained. The dye covers them nicely.
