Got a scary letter!

Got a letter today from Jobcentre plus saying I need to attend an 'office interview'

It says 'we need to see you in order to discuss the benefit we are currently paying you'

I'm on income support as I have a 7 month old baby.

Should I be worried?? Why are they asking for an interview? Please tell me this is just a routine thing! I can't think why they need to interview me??!

Do you have a partner or any savings?

  • I've heard they routinely check a certain amount of claims, at random, I guess to get a feel of how things are going/the sort of situations people are in/find any fruad loopholes in the system etc.
Alternatively, it might be to get you thinking about going back to work, although it seems quite early to be doing that. But they may be trying to prepare people earlier now, perhaps there'd be courses etc that might help you back to work so they'd encourage you to do them sooner rather than later?
  • It could be a random check, depending how long you have been claiming or maybe a 3 month check up.
Or it could be someone has reported you for something that they could be making up or your not being totally honest about.

Have to say the usual problem is having a partner :) and someone has 'informed' on you sugesting that he is livng with you/supporting you.

If that is the case then post back so that we can try and help you 'unravel' what the problem may be.

My niece has recently been told that the father of her child can visit all day but as long as he is not living there then she can still receive her benefits. A lot of misinformation about this (and a lot of threads!)

Having said that it may be something entirely different!

Thanks for the replies, my babies dad is on the scene and visits her often, but doesnt stay over, and we aren't together. So maybe someone has seen him coming and going and put 2 and 2 together to make 5?

In September it'll be a year on income support so I guess it could be that... I really want to ring the guy and ask what the interview is for but I don't want to look suspicious if you know what I mean? I have nothing to hide, they can come round if they want but I really want to know why I'm being interviewed.

    Thanks again

I'm Scottish, didn't want England to win and both me and my partner were shouting at the tv. Completely ridiculous commentary, totally biased!!
  • When I was on IS I used to have 6 monthly interviews. Could it be this? IIRC they inform you in the letter if it is an investigation into something further.

I'm a mother with a 6 month old baby. My mother in law live round the corner and I HATE it.

We have TOLD her so many times if she wants to visit just to give a little text with 10 minutes warning. THATS ALL I WANT. So I can put clothes on, clean up, put the kettle on etc. But she insists on coming round, and opening our front door and shouting 'helloooo' then walking in. I HATE IT. there are no smileys that can possibly convey how much I hate this. I HATE HATE HATE HATE IT.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Maybe I'm an exception, I don't know. But I HATE ANYONE coming round unannounced, and I despise them letting themselves into my home without my notice or permission.
I cannot understand anyone who is happy to have people walking in, it makes no sense to me at all. BIZARRE.

I'm a mum, I want to be a mum, have my home and my partner and baby. I don't want anyone else butting in unless it's on my terms. I'm happy and relaxed at home, I would HATE his parents coming round more than once a week or once a fortnight.

Some people are open-doorsey and some people are booby-trap-the-lawn-double-lock-the-door people.

You wife comes first completely. If she doesn't want her baby going out for the day with your parents that's totally up to her! This is her baby too! A mum needs to be allowed to make the choice.

I totally feel sorry for your wife.

I think you know why you have been called for interview, don't you?

That was a different guy :) he came over for the footie, I wouldn't call my babies dad my partner, we split before she was born.
