Car insurance - no claims main driver

Spoke to RAC again, only their policy to swap no claims between husbandand wife. They will not put anything in writing.
Spoke to Swiftcover who will not accept no claims in my wife's name and had never heard of RAC practice.
So seems like best way is to use my renewal from previous year (still should be valid up to 24 months).
Thanks RAC for being so helpfull.0 -
Ask them to re-instate the ncd in your name, and send you written confirmation. Put this in writing to them. Also state that if they will not, you will raise it as a complaint to the FOS, as they are not treating you fairly, and making it impossible for you to shop around for other quotes with different companies.0

The problem with this approach is that the OP may have (unknowingly) made a mistaken when taking out the policy:
The RAC have taken his word that the main driver had some NCD (when in fact she didn't), and priced accordingly.
A complaint may stir up some hornets and backfire!
The OP needs to check exactly what it says in the policy docs about each drivers' details, and how much NCD they had, and take it from there whether or not a complaint is a good idea.0 -
Think found simple solution, get RAC to transfer main driver to my name. therefore they will transfer the no claims into my name.0

Not if the RAC don't make it clear in their t&c's. If they are substantially different to the rest of the market place, it's down to them to make it very clear to the customer, not for the customer to spot it hidden away somewhere.0 -

Although the OP is having this problem, they do make it clear - they also only grant DOC to the main driver (and that has to be clear!!).
(It's possible the OP agreed their "assumptions" without reading them)0 -
I've spent too much time on the phone and give in for now. RAC wont help, so left with no alternative but to use no claims from previous year in my name.
I dont understand issue regarding used/unused...
Unused NCD is (usually) valid for up to 2 years, but your "old" NCD isn't "unused".
I am sure that I never saw any explication of main driver and how this relates to no claims, but RAC can only determine that I completed it online last year and say that it is all my fault as I was completimg online.
I'll have a look later at a new RAC online quotation to see how 'explicit' the no claims issue is declared.
All I can say that no other insurance company I've phoned today or in the past operate their no claims like RAC. Its always the policy holder whi has the no claims.
Perhaps its not worth pursuing, but part of me doesnt want to give in.0 -
Something smells. I've gone through an online quote. ncd help, cut and pasted from the RAC site. - " Every year you hold a policy in your own name without making a claim, you earn a no claims discount, which may reduce your premium. " Now, that's with me as policyholder, registered keeper and owner, my wife as main driver. ncd quite clearly from the policyholder, not from the main driver.0
