Car insurance - no claims main driver

On looking at my renewal I find that the no claims has been put under my wife's name, she is the main driver on my policy. The RAC say that this is their method, whereas speaking with the insurer of our car they say the no claims relates to the policy holder.
Are they both right? I did not set up the RAC policy knowingly that they would put the no claims in her name.

The RAC are different!
They only grant NCD to the main driver, irrespective of who is the policy holder.0 -
So how can they do this without explicitly informing you, when it is not standard practice, or is there no such thing. I've never had this happen before.
If they can transfer it once then why cant they do it back?
How do I get back my no claims discount?
My renewal is due on Monday.
The policy was set up online last year, without any knowledge of this.
When comapring online I assume that the no claims always relates to the policy holder, that is always what I've understood.
There is no information that asks whether the no claims is for the policy holder or main driver.
We are both main drivers on each others policies, maybe we should just transfer the registration documents. Is that the best way?
So confusing.0 -
Why are you main drivers on each others policy?Do you still have your proof of your no claims from your previous insurer?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Change the policy to put you as the main driver a few weeks before its due. They will probably charge but it may put it back into your name. Maybe?
If not as mentioned above use last years reminder for this years insurance?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Just happened that way, one car became more suited for that commute.paddedjohn wrote: »Do you still have your proof of your no claims from your previous insurer?
Yes, I believe we have documentation of renewals from previous insurers.
Why does not the industry have this information themselves?
Is it now incorrect to believe that the the registered keeper and policy holder does not automatically claim the no claims?
What is the true definition of main driver?
Frequency? Amount of time behind wheel? No of miles driven?
Comparing quotes online seems like a nonsense now.0 -

Is there a recognised list of insureres who automatically attribute no claims to the main driver, like RAC?0

Take care over this.
Insurers accept "old" NCB when it wasn't used. (Yours seems to have been!)
If you do have to supply proof, then they will ask why it is "old", and why the gap in your cover.
I'm sorry but I am not understanding this. I filled the online quotation in as normal, selected RAC, and now find that my no claims has been attributed to my wife. Why is this my fault and why cannot be easily be rectified. We are not trying to defraud anyone. There appears to be a complete lack of transparency.0 -
I'm sorry but I am not understanding this........
When you pass on an "old" NCD proof, the insurer needs to know that you have truly had a gap from insuring, (eg. you may have actually used the old NCD, but had a claim during the year, and thus the current up to date NCD will be less than that you have on the "old" proof you are attempting to use).
In your case, you have used the "old" NCD on a new policy.
Maybe you can see if a local broker (not swinton) can help find insurers who will transfer it over.
Alternatively, take out the policy in your wife's name.0 -
Our other car is due for renewal next month, the insurer has confirmed that the no claims is in my wifes name as she is the policy holder and I am the main driver, which is what I assumed.
Can she legally now have 2 different no claims?
So is my RAC insurance actually invalid as I somehow inaccurately declared unkowingly that the the no claims is based on the main driver and not the policy holder?
Thanks for your help in replying and trying to get me to understand, but I called RAC who said that they would ring back but they never did. Quite frankly I would not recommend them from this experience.0
