So Sunday afternoon I am sent off to Argos to collect some jewellery which will be a present for our daughter who is in hospital for the second time this year.
Getting a free parking ticket for the free 2 hrs of parking completely slips my mind and 10 minutes later I'm peeling a notice off the windscreen.
On my return home I'm pretty angry and upset, it's been a stressf ul few weeks. So Mrs Jimbuoy logs on to appeal the ticket.
So now of course UKPC have my name as driver and address.
It's only today after a nights sleep and some googleing that I can see that they "may2 not have a leg to stand on.
What next?????
Thanks in advance

The key thing to do now is ignore the wotsits. Coupon-mad will no doubt be along soon to give you more info. They will refuse your appeal and send you more rubbish through the post, all of which can be safely ignored.
More importantly, I hope your daughter is well and home soon.0 -
Good news, they don't have a leg to stand on.
Due to a recent ruling (VCS v HMRC) where it was stated that parking companies do not have sufficient proprietary interest on land that they do not own to form a contract with the driver of any vehicle, plus the fact that under contract law they would only be entitled to their actual financial losses anyway (which would be zero in a free car park) you legally owe them nowt.
Ignore all the scary letters and eventually they should go away.Je Suis Cecil.0 -
Thank you for your reassurance, I shall file the "ticket" away and any future junk that they may send....
I may be back for further reassurance.
I'll keep the argos receipt to show timing as that will help prove that i was with in the 2 hr free period.

I was there the other week when I heard someone getting upset over getting a ticket...I quickly let them know what to do. That made someone's day0

Free car-park = no losses to landowner.
I wonder how many other people get fooled into thinking they don't need a ticket for the free 2 hours?0 -

and why should you have to get a free ticket to aprk for a free period of 2 hours??
if the place is being managed correctly then isnsisting that people had free tickets would be an aditional cost, im sure that ticket machines+ the paper tickets they spit out have some cost. From the Plain Language Commission:

They gave up on our ticket in the same car park, IIRC 3rd letter was the last.0

You do need some record of your arrival time. A local (slightly) out-of-town department store operates a system like this. You have to take a ticket to open the entrance barrier.
The costs of the ticket machines are normal day-to-day running costs, and not incurred as a result of any alleged breach of any alleged contract. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
So having had my appeal acknowledged by email I never receive any response to it.
Then yesterday I get their first ( I assume) threatening letter.
Interestingly they write saying they have obtained information that I am the registered owner and keeper. Interesting because I am not. It's a company car!! They only have my details as my wife, (perhaps, with hindsight, foolishly) gave them on their web appeals form.
Tempted to write with a snotty reply!
Advice and reassurance on the sit tight and ignore please......
