  • 1 Jan 2008 - A new year has started, & what a start! I already had invites to two New Year parties, but when I went to an open mic night at a Hove pub on New Year's Eve Eve I ended up on stage singing & got invited to a third by some musicians! It wasn't a hard decision to choose which party to go to, as I knew the last one I'd heard about would have live music played rather than cds, & the guys I'd met the night before had said they'd want me to sing with them. It was definitely the right decision - aided & abetted by only one glass of white wine all night (I can't get over that myself, as I've previously been a "rum into a drip" kind of girl :o:D), I went up to sing about 11pm, was back there at 1am & then up again just before the fireworks at 4am! I had an absolutely brilliant time. I made lots of music contacts, got lots of encores & people coming up to praise me on my voice - that was so good, not from any vanity aspect, but because I haven't sung live for so long, & to do it totally unrehearsed with musicians I didn't know & in front of people I didn't know was a real test. After being ill & not having sung properly for so long, I didn't know whether I still had a good enough voice for public singing & could actually perform on stage, but it seems I do & I can - the guys I played with have been working musicians for over 30 years, & one went to the mic & said it was a privilege to play bass for me, which was a bit embarrassing but very much appreciated. It seems I haven't forgotten what it takes to really perform after all - thank goodness for that! :j :j

Singing was one of the things I really wanted to concentrate on this year, so to have it so well received was so reassuring. I've got open invites to two Hove events - they told me to ring before I next come down with details of what I want to sing, & they'll learn the songs ready for me to do a proper set. In the meantime, I've got a few days before I go back to work, so I'm going to work on my repertoire & find more open mic events to go to nearer to home. :)

I've had less than 4 hours sleep & I'm exhausted even though I'm on a mental high of the sort that I haven't felt in ages. I've done all my dirty washing, I've got my tootsies soaking in the foot spa as I type & I'm going to put my feet up for the rest of tonight with an orange juice (what a raver I am ;)) & some double choc cookies while I write down all my music ideas before I fall asleep & forget them.

Hope everyone had as great a start to the new year as I did. The year couldn't have had a better start for me, & I'm so happy I could burst. :)

  • Glad you had such a good new year WDIAG..i'm now wondering if i should offer to be your manager, sounds like you have a career ahead of you in singing.
I was dicussing 'Men' with a friend the other day and we were trying to decide at what point do you tell them your a BR  its hardly first date or pillow talk stuff. I wonder if they would then run a mile when you told them?
I did this years ago, when dating a guy who told me he was about to lose his house and go BR and i dumped him:eek: what a cow i am. But then i didn't realise what BR was all about and had all sorts of horrible images of him. It wouldn't have worked anyway but i should have given him more of a break.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

I'd be more than happy to have a bankrupt girlfriend; after all I've got a bankrupt wife.:D :D

The conversation would be so enlightening: BRO's BRA's BRIEF's BRU's; would have to think of a word more romantic than "discharge" though.

(Wdiag - apologies for being off topic; I'll delete this Post if you'd rather)

I didn't realise you were a singer; if ever you're looking for a manager my financial abilities are awesome; just not with my own money.:D :D

It can stay, Richard - it made me laugh too much to be deleted. :D
