I really don't understand a desire to put cheese into beans :undecided: - my adult son does it all the time
- but if you're going to the trouble of reducing every scrap of fat in both the bacon and sausages, then you're putting MORE fat back in by adding the cheese
. I think it's probably just ME really - guess I've got to an age where 'some new ideas' just make me think
.
In the interests of 'making it healthier' AND 'reducing the cost' would you consider leaving out the cheese?
I pay less than 40p per can for baked beans (usually around 33p) - by either buying them from the 'bashed tin/whoopsied shelf' OR by choosing the cheaper beans (we don't like them with a thick/sweet sauce).
My own personal downfall with a cooked breakfast is the 'fried bread' ................. just can't resist the darn stuff.
Would you consider swapping the Baked Beans for tinned chopped tomatoes? Might not reduce the price by very much, but it would lower the calorie/carb content.0 -
Branston Beans are usually 3 for £1 in Iceland; saving 7p and I would leave out the cheese saving 40p and fat.Slimming World at target0

hi do you have a sainsburys near you ? they do cooking bacon for £1.10 a pack which might do the bacon bit 2 or 3 times if you froze some....aldi beans 24p a tin hm potato cakes...boil some pots and mash mix in a couple of tablespoons of flour and roll out cut out discs witha cutter and fry on both sides
hit and miss but if you see any of the bits eg sausages on ys buy and chuck in freezer until you need them
sounds lovely think i will make one at the weekendonwards and upwards0 -
I second the bit about the bacon bits Morries and sainsbob both do 'bacon bits for around a pound.I think in morrisons there was 500gms of chopped up bacon bits for about a quid and I use it for my DGS who love bacon sarnies.a third of a packet will do fried to a crisp for about thre-four sarnis. The four DGS like my bacon sarnies when they come home from school.I fry a panful then divide into four on two slices of toast and pop a fried egg on top.My bigger DGS Ben(18) doesn't eat butter at all, so he has his on toast spread with ketchup.I usually divide the bacon up into three packets and freeze so I can use a packet at a time. Its also lovely fried to a crisp and chucked into cheesy pasta.
I don't eat fry ups at all but I do like an ommelette with a handful of crispy fried bacon bits in it0 -

Just what I was going to add to the conversation!
I have a good rummage for a less fatty pack. We have a breakfast on a Saturday as our main meal at midday, and any left over goes into a quiche or carbonara.0 -

Iceland do potato bread at 2 packs for £1 and they freeze so I don't see the point of making my own.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

If you are already in Farmfoods, then you can get 15 eggs for £1, cutting the overall price even more. HTH0

Thanks for the tips, everyone! I guess I reduce the fat so much so that I can add a bit of cheese lol.
I didn't realise you could get lean cuts of bacon in large, cheap packs in sainsburys. Most of the stuff I've ever seen has been streaky and very fatty.
I got some ys packets of warburtons potato cakes for 14p each in Asda - bargain!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. It looks like you prefer a good filling start to the day - nothing wrong with that but have you thought of spreading it all out over 4 days?
Beans on toast with a sausage each
Scrambled eggs and blck pud
Bacon and cheese toasties
then have the rest as a smaller breakfast
Just a thought. I love a big brekkie too but like to change it about a bit.Clearing the junk to travel light
