You don't have to have breakfast foods for breakfast, if he won't be having a big cooked lunch and he will be home too late for a heavy meal I would be tempted to give him his dinner for breakfast...June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Have you tried Staffordshire Oatcakes? They`re a it like pancakes but tastier & more substantial. you put what you want on the oatcake, roll it up & heat in microvawe. Our favourites are a slice of cheese, a slice of ham, and a few slices of tomato.
You don`t have to be in Staffs for this delicacy, Tesco & Morrisons sell them.0 -

I'm from Staffordshire and the norm is to have plain cheese or cheese and bacon or cheese and sausage.
I do love having cheese and beans too just flat sandwiched in the microwave.0 -

Love oatcakes but the best ones are from the local oatcake shop not the supermarkethowever when living in London for 20+ years the supermarket ones certainly filled a gap. Cheese or butter and brown sauce are my favourites.

Re Oatakes - My own personal favourite filling is Brie. My son likes fried egg in his - plus bacon etc... the possibilities are endless. Also there are lots of recipes for doing your own oatcakes, simple enough to make a big batch & freeze (I Googled and made my own before the local Tesco started selling them.)0

All the above suggestions are good. If he's in a hurry, a protein powder shake made with a banana and some milk will keep him full for hours. And it's hard to go wrong with wholegrain toast slathered with peanut butter and topped with sliced banana!0

Ok, folks, my OH and I love a cooked breakfast on the weekends. However, if we go out to eat, it usually costs us about £18 for two (yes, you read that right, Aberdeen rip-off prices again!). So, I decided to make my own and I've been trying to get the price as cheap as possible.
If anyone can suggest how I could do this cheaper, please feel free to post!
(For two people over two days - 4 breakfasts)
6 pack of Farmfoods frozen smoked back bacon £1
8 eggs £80p (Home Bargains 10 for £1)
8 slices of bread/toast (1/2 a 34p ys frozen loaf)
8 thin skinless sausages 70p (£1 for 12 Lawson's brand)
1 tin Branston beans 40p (Home Bargains)
Handful of cheese 40p (for the beans, £1.99 for a block Aldi)
Haggis slices or Black pudding 99p (99p for 4, Aldi)
Total: £4.63
We also try to make it as healthy as possible, remove all the bacon fat, grill the meat and drain/soak up the fat with kitchen roll, poach the eggs etc. any other tips?“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Hi, we usually have a cooked breakfast late on a Saturday morning because then I know everyone is fed properly before they go off in different directions to do footie/meet up with mates etc. Its nice to get the teenagers out of bed and have everyone sitting around the table talking about plans for the weekend and this just wouldnt work with cereal and toast.
Thats a fairly good price I think. I have made my own hash browns or potato cakes before but they are a bit of a faff (although freeze well). Some sort of potato product helps to fill everyone up. Bacon is the most expensive part I find and the kids only want to eat the really lean bits but I just buy one pack and share it out.
Health wise? Well as you say if its grilled and you only do it twice a week - and then otherwise eat a good balanced diet then I dont see a problem.0 -
buy your Branston beans when on offer such as 3 for a £1 (farmfoods & poundstretcher) - that will knock 7p off the price (i will not eat any other beans so always one look out for such)I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0
