Rebob wrote:How does everyone make there own porridge? Do you just soak the oats or what??
Thanks in advance.
I take one measure of oats (e.g. a cup full) and put in a pan with 2 measures of liquid (e.g. two cups full) (usually just water, but sometimes some milk) - and cook on the hob till its cooked and 'gloopy-er' - takes maybe 3 minutes at a guess.0 -

Hi
Eggs dont go down too well and have to be careful with dairy  its a real pain! I do have the odd scrambled egg but literally just a couple of mouthfuls.
Thanks

Some great ideas on here.
This is what we have:
Eggie toast
Scrambled egg on toast or in a sandwich!
Cheese on toast
Beans on toast
Porridge
Oatcakes and cheese
muffins
yoghurt and chopped nuts
My son always has fruit with his breakfast.
Pennypincher, it occurs to me that I'd be really stuck without eggs and dairy looking at my list.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
you can make scambled eggs in the mircowave
allow 2 eggs per person, break into a microwave-able container such as a measuring jug. add milk, and any seasonings you use. give it a good stir with a fork, and mcrowave on high for approx 3 mins, stopping every now and then to give it a good stir with a fork to fluff the eggs up.
much easier than trying to wash out a saucepan, and they taste so good that no one is ever none the wiser.
or how about an omlette, or fritatta (an open omlette)? my current favourite fritatta filling is leftovers from the fridge, such as potato, onion, bacon and cheese.
nuke a small potato in the mirco, as you would a jacket potato. whilst it is cooking, grill a rasher of bacon, and dice finely. once the potato is done, peel, and finely slice or dice. grab your onion, and chop as desired.
fry the onion and potato together, until brown and crispy. add the bacon to warm through, then pour your standard omlette mix into the pan, and cook until the bottom is set, and brown.
sprinkle the top with a little grated cheese, and pop under the grill to finish off.

Mum used to literally chop an egg into teeny pieces, mix butter and black pepper in and serve with soldiers. (had to be in a cup
)
I had that, only my Mum didn't use butter only a splash of milk. She used to boil the egg, put it in a mug, add milk and I got to mush it up with a fork!! Lovely.Brassic!0 -
I've never heard of having it in a cup, in NZ we whack between 2 slices of bread and its a mashed egg sarnie. DELISH!!!!!WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0

I should probably make an extra NYR to make my own breakfast (would save at least £6 a week on my beloved takeaway bacon sarnies and probably take an inch or two off my waistline...)
But no matter what time I get out of bed, I NEVER seem to have enough time for breakfast before I go out!
I love porridge but hate doing the washing up.
The solution I've come up (in theory) with is to stock up on disposable bowls from £-shop or Wilkinsons - must be cardboard ones for environmental reasons - and keep the bowls and a box of HM porridge mix in my desk drawer to nuke in the MW when I get into the office.
I am certain this has been discussed before, but what mixtures of porridge ingredients (porridge oats, raisins, sugar, cinnamon etc) work for you? I'd love to be able to recreate the yumminess of Oatso Simple for less money.
(By the way, I had a bacon sarnie this morning - first day back at work - but swapped my full fat latte for a cheaper and less calorific black coffee! Will be giving those up too because I can make free coffee in the office...)Operation Get in Shape

I find washing up after porridge is SO easy if you do it straight away.... leave it a couple of hours and you have concrete...0
