what about getting several dishes ready of eg oat flakes, diced apricots, chopped nuts, raisins etc and getting them to choose their own breakfast the night before. Just soak what they want in milk overnight and maybe warm in the microwave in the morning. Get them to come up with ideas of what to put into their own muesli. They could keep a trial and error list and it will encourage them to experiment. They could give their choice a mark out of ten and eventually see who designs the tastiest breakfast0

What about HM muffins either sweet or savoury
maybe served with fruit or yogurt? Pancakes can be easy to make or you can batch cook and freeze, serve again with fruit or yogurt etc. Or what about a smoothie? I agree this time of year something hot would be nice: porridge with fruit or nuts, crumpets, scrambled egg on toast, dippy eggs and toast are favs here.
Im quite interested in this thread-Im having problems knowing what to have for breakie. Im not very good with bread in the morning and not suppose to have too much fruit or veg. Milk doesnt go down well either-so will be watching this thread to see if theres any ideas that will help little old me

I sometimes make Museli bread in breadmaker- just take out some of the flour and add some museli instead (I use value brand- just add at the beginning) set on multigrain , can also add some brown/wholemeal flour. My children 'don't like' brown bread but will quite happily eat this. It's quite filling and nice for a change.0

Hello JamieDodger....
Being a creature of habit I tend to eat one of the following depending upon what I fancy and how ravenously, starving hungry I am…
Toast with lots of butter and Marmalade
Toast with lots of butter and Honey
Weetabix or Bran Flakes
Boiled eggs (2 Free Range) and Soldiers …yes you’ve guessed it…. with lots of butter on them – hee hee
A large mug of tea… always tea… lolThe £2 Coin Savers Club = £346.00 (£300.00 transferred to Savings a/c)

How does everyone make there own porridge? Do you just soak the oats or what??
Thanks in advance.The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0 -
Did anyone else have chopped up egg in a cup when they were little?
Mum used to literally chop an egg into teeny pieces, mix butter and black pepper in and serve with soldiers. (had to be in a cup
)
I make the same thing for my little one but I mush the egg with a fork, spread it onto a slice of toast then cut into fingers. The egg stays on the toast
Or beat an egg in a dish with some milk and microwave or fry in a small frying pan to get a little omelette. Put the omlette on top of a slice of toast and cut into squares (shaves an extra 10 minutes 'cutting up time' off breakfast time) then cover with beans.
Make Weetabix with warm milk, add sliced banana and brown sugar.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -

You can cook it in a pan but I prefer to cook mine in the microwave while I take a shower - only takes a couple of mins.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I cook my porridge in the microwave as follows:
1. put oats mixture in microwavable bowl
2. Good slosh of milk (or water for a lower fat version) and stir
3. Microwave for 2 minutes
4. Stir
5. Microwave for 2 minutes
6. Remove from microwave and add some more milk (you can see I like my milk!)
7. Consume (carefully as it is very hot ... more cold milk cools it down)

Hello Rebob
I would normally cook in a saucepan on the hob with half milk half water, (just follow the packet instructions for quantities) then a small sprinkling of sugar when it's in the bowl, plus a splash more milk if it's a bit too hot or dry.
However I am a v.lazy girl, and lately I have taken to not cooking my porridge at all. I literally just put some milk from the fridge onto it and that's it! That might be too raw for you - you can as you suggest just soak the oats (in milk) the night before, and throw in a handful of sunflower or pumpkin seeds, some chopped almonds and some sultanas or raisins and store in the fridge - that's homemade "no added sugar" museli, and it's lovely! You can make it with orange or apple juice instead of milk too.0
