just had two rice cakes (two packs for 99p at the 99p shop); one with marmite and pumpkin seeds, the other with peanut butter and sliced apple on it, and a couple of tangerines. Yum.

    Hi guys

Curious to know about what people had for breakfast before cereals such as cornflakes etc came about. Anyone able to answer?

    Thanks :)
  • Before super markets, we all ate unhealthy, surviving on only bread and water.

I think porridge was, and still is, a good alternative to cereals. We don't eat cereals like cornflakes at all here, although one DD likes Weetabix, or the supermarket versions of it, at least!

Eggs, bacon, pancakes, potato cakes, sausages, kippers, kedgeree, fruit like grapefruit and prunes - I am sure other people will be able to add more.

Many people ate full English breakfasts or similar, every day of the week. Breakfast was a bigger event due to most jobs involving manual labour - farming and mining and the like - so a breakfast was a big and varied meal that set you up for the day.

Stayed in bed until Lunch I guess.
    I hate migraines.
  • Rich people had cold meats and bread and ale and poor people had bread if they were lucky and weak beer to go with it as if you drank the water it would probably make you very ill.
  • Hi,

I used to get a drop gruel, on a good day, but especially as a treat on birthdays, oh how I looked forward to my birthday.
