For gluten free bread you'll want a machine with a rapid/fast/express bake setting (60-80min bake time). Also quick-rise yeast will work best.

I currently pay £1.20 for a loaf from my local bakers, I just can't stand the supermarket stodgy loaves. I will certainly think about getting one of these bread makers. Are they really easy to use, I'm not into baking normally.0 -

A bread maker is well easy to use. Just weigh all the ingrediants out, chuck it in the machine, switch it on, walk away. It does it all for you

I was given a similar LARGE bread maker from ALDI - it had TWO paddles to mix the dough rather than one - and had a MAJOR design fault in that BOTH paddles stuck to their shafts.
Tried it twice - first time with top margarined as per recommendation, second with olive oil on the spindle - and both times had the same problem. As the paddle is firmly baked into the loaf it made it IMPOSSIBLE to remove the loaf from the tin without forcing one's hand underneath to rip the bread off the stuck paddles - ie complete disaster with just the remnants of a loaf to eat!
Aldi's helpline was very helpful and spontaneously recommended olive oiling the spindles (which I'd tried) and were going to send a replacement but I got friend to claim a refund instead as I believed either the design or quality control was at fault.
Got the silver fastbake Morphy Richards instead - smaller capacity but the single and clever design paddle hasn't caused any problems - and very happy with first 3 loafs baked in it.
Don't know how the Lidl one compares but my experience is that they definitely aren't all as easy to use as it appears AND consider how large a capacity one you need for your household as they ARE bulky and have to be stored somewhere.0 -
I've ordered the £24.99 Morphy Richards one - so thanks for that info! I'll let you know how I get on. There is only 2 of us eating bread in the household so this seems a decent size for me.0

There were no 'bog' standard white/brown/granary receipes. Is this the same or are the instructions/receipies easy to follow?
i just have brought the Lidls one and it had a recipe book with standard white loafs, farmohouse, granary, brown etc plus then all the more fancier breads.i love the paidtoshop website X0 -

Thank you that is really usefull
The glass is always half full, no exceptions !!:D0 -
Just bought one of these (Thanks to the OP)
I've cleaned it as per instructions and given it a 5 min pre-heat - boy does it ming! I'm not convinced the oily smell has burnt off, so might do this a couple of times more once it cools down - otherwise I think it might taint my first loaf.0 -
please can we have a report back form those that have bought one.
I owuld say it was for the good of all but TBH it just saves me stinking my house out if it is a bit didgy :-)) (gotto love honesty)

You can't really go wrong with the 3 yr guarantee + you can buy spare paddles and tins for it.
I'm just through my second attempt at burning the horrible oily/metal smell off it, cleaning it each time it cools down - if I can't get rid of it, it's going back.0 -
I bought one of these last year. It didn't work. Lidl were very helpful, and replaced it without question (although it was months until they got more stock!!).
The second machine worked, but the results were variable. The biggest problem was that the mixing paddle got stuck to the post, and in the bread EVERY time, which meant the loaf got stuck in the tin. I oiled the post each time with either olive oil or vegetable oil, but it didn't help. I tried taking the bread out when it had just finished, when it had cooled a bit, and when it was cold.
Nothing helped. It drove me mad!!
In the end I asked for a MR Fastbake for Christmas. It's the one with the paddle that lays flat at the end of the mixing.
It's great!! I no longer have bread stuck in the tin. It tips straight out every time without fail. :T
We now have fresh bread every day.
It's lovely. :j
