Ive got 2 contactless debit card. One with the co op and one with HSBC. They are not avalable to customers under 18 or holders of cashminder/basic account because the bank cant authorise the transaction everytime it is used and therefore there is a likelihood that the account holder could go overdrawn. That is what the bank told me anyways :)

Correct. A contactless transaction does not have to go for authorisation. And maybe batch processed overnight.
But it is also possible to force authorisation on contactless. I have a 02 card and they do. So fast that I get a text advising of purchase before leaving shop.

Tell me about it I had 6 transactions go out my account to macdonalds all dated for the same day. My bank must think I'm a greedy bar steward. When in reality the transactions was spread out over two weeks.

Yeah its a poor exscuse not issuing cards to those who have obtain authorisation cards, as contactless is just as capable of doing a transaction online. The metro bank have contactless on their Cash Card+ card which is an online card.
