Well no, because they pay per card... If they refuse to upgrade any of the Cashminder accounts then that's X amount of cards they don't need to pay for. Even if you waited until it was time to renew the card - I'd imagine contactless are still more expensive to buy than normal ones.
Contactless is not hugely more expensive. It was the upgrade from magstripe only cards to EMV that was far more expensive.0 -
Just opened up a Smilemore account with The Co-Op.
Didn't realise until I tried to use my oystercard that the bank card is contactless.
DunreeLife is now good

Apparently they cost about £1 more. I have no idea how many Cashminder accounts that is, but even if it's only 100,000, that's £100,000 they'd have to spend (not much in the scheme of things, but sizeable). Plus of course, they'd rather people had current accounts instead, so they aren't exactly going to give the basic account an advantage if they don't have to.0 -
I wonder how they'll treat those on the regular current a/c who their system judges as requiring short term validity cards.
(The credit files are completely clean and I've never misbehaved with their account or needed a replacement card, so who can say why... they've treated me perfectly otherwise, though!)0 -
Hey peeps,
Got my contactless card today. Here's a pic:

Interestingly, the 16 digit card number and valid from date have stayed the same. However, the card expires 10 months earlier than the previous one and the CV2 has changed. Also, the hologram has been moved from the front to the back.0 -
JacksterD can you please show me the back of this card because i want to know if it still has the little link logo on it. Much Appreciated because i cant get contactless until december

Ive got contactless and your really not missing out...any time ive gone to use it the assistant has said 'huh? what?' and ive had to explain or 'its not working' and 9/10 when they know what it is and try to work it they give up and ask me to put my card in.0

I wondered if they automatically gave it to people who had used their card in the places that have contactless. I use my card all the time and places that got it were places i already used. BoS automatically sent me mine but not my joint account and my husband didnt get one.0

Had this myself with McDonalds. The reader said "Contactless" on the top, so I said "Pay by contactless?" and got the response "Yes we do, insert your card into the reader, confirm the amount and enter your PIN.", at which point I gave up and did as she said. Never managed to pay anything by contactless yet.0 -

Hey Nathan, updated my post above. Main differences are that the hologram has been moved from the front to the back and the Link logo has indeed gone.0
