It might just be that the thief is working in the post office.Have all the small sub post offices got cameras?
Ask them to send it internet banking next time.
Interesting that alot of people selling vouchers on Ebay still think they should go normal or recorded post only.0 -
There is of course Postwatch to complaint to as well, although they were pretty useless when I complained. Kept closing my file!
Might have improved!Help me to help you :santa2:0 -
My SIL sent us a Christmas card with vouchers for the kids, it never got here, but I didn't find out until February when I spoke to her and she mentioned it. Too late to complain but it's so annoying when people spend their hard earned money to make kids happy, only to have some scumbag (probably temp worker) steal it.
Sellers on ebay always say if you insist on paying with cash, send it in a plain brown envelope, wrapped in a piece of paper, with a first class stamp - the thieves won't even look at it.0 -
One time my cousin posted some photos and a necklace to me. On the envelope it had some special tape (like the one you mentioned) that said something about it being found opened. I realised that the photos and necklace were both missing...the only thing that was left was a letter.
I sent a letter (with a photocopy of the envelope that my letter came in) to Postwatch telling them how upset I was and how the things were of sentimental value to me. A couple of weeks later I got a £15 cheque through the post which isn't so bad...it was better than nothing. And my cousin didn't send the letter by special delivery or recorded delivery.
You should try writing to Postwatch. They may give you most the money back...you just need to make sure you tell them how upset you are.0 -

Sellers on ebay saying that are hopefully very rare as offering to accept cash by post for an item sale is against the rules and will get the auction suspended and a warning on the sellers account.

Soo that must be a new rule, a year ago it was fairly common, although I would never consider it as an option (Paypal might be expensive, but it's safer!) I was simply using it as an example of how to hide cash or vouchers in the mail0

ok, can you put me straight? if it comes in a bag or with a sticker saying its been found open then it was probably accidental or in the sorting office? and if it doesn't then its anybody's guess where it was opened? Is that correct. I've never seen the bag/sticker before.
I do agree most postmen/women are very good but everyone has their own nightmare stories... We have had a few things lost or opened including a graduation card that didn't have money in it, just sentimental value. It never ever arrived so i can only imagine that once they realised there was no cash they just chucked it, quite upsetting.
Our worst was when a postperson dumped about 15 letters through our door (on the ground floor at the time) and OH went around the street delivering them. One was a card which had been opened and the recipient was convinced it was her!
Good point about reporting it to help post offices catch the bad guys, will bear that in mind.Nice to save.0 -
One benefit from receiving the post - no matter in what state - is that you know something was sent.
When I complianed to Royal Mail that 10 cards for my son's birthday had not arrived they basically said tough as I could not prove any of them had been sent. They had been posted in different parts of the UK and on different days.
I got a book of first class stamps as a token gesture.
I try to use Royal Mail as little as possible now - sorry if that tars everyone with the same brush.
We do have a brilliant postie at the moment so that does helpWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
I'm sure that the tape they use on the envelopes means that someone has opened the letter...it could either be the postie or someone else.
I once saw a postman leave his van door open as he went to a block of flats to post something. And this boy appeared and noticed the door open and he picked up as many parcels as he could & ran off. The postman was returning at this point and failed to catch up with the boy. But I can't believe how stupid the postman was...I mean, did he really think that no one would steal anything if he left his door open like that?0 -
Yet another birthday card arrived today in clear envelope with "our sincere aplogies....". Amazing how its another birthday card its happened to given away by the "hallmark" logo on the back but now they dont open the envelopes any more its just ripped in half! Must have taken quite some ripping as it is a substantially thick card! At least they left the address in tact so that my son got half a card!
Previously, It was a massive box that had been sealed internally with clear plastic, but that plastic had been slashed with a knife and some of my presents removed . That had been handed in at a post office and by the time it arrived with me had been tampered with.0
