Hi all... Hope someone can help...
It is my birthday on Sunday and I have just come home to find a birthday card from my Aunt... it was in a plastic bag from Royal Mail saying sorry it had come open by mistake - it has obviously been opened by hand... it gives a number to call if their is anything missing... DOH! £50 of M&S vouchers...
Can anyone help as to where I will stand with a claim - it was not sent recorded... has anyone had this happen before???
Just wanted a head start before I ring...
Thanks so much.

Recorded won't help with vouchers, they'll say it should have been send special delivery to be insured.0

Thanks - I am so frustrated....
Have I got a leg to stand on at all?? Will they do anything??? My aunt has the receipt for the vouchers but I gues they could have been from anywhere....0 -
I would however add that it wouldn't stopme asking RM in quite harsh tones "WHO opened it by mistake". Also they said sorry, which to me indicates some admission of guilt (but IANAL),0

Report it to your local delivery office. They will know who delivered the envelope and be able to investigate from there. My hubby is a postie and these matters are taken seriously. Here I go again on my own....0

Hi there
Thanks so much.. I am going to call them this morning and see what they say...

all my daughter's cards came open last year. unfortunately some had money from aunties etc in them. I cant say the post office took it serious at all. I complained at our local sorting office, (where it must have happened because the cards came from all over the country so it was the only time they were all together!) and they just gave me a form....I filled it out and I basically got a letter back saying tough. my friends husbands car magazine regularly goes missing - and nothing has ever been done even though he reports it every time.
my husbands birthday cards the other week came open too.x x x0 -
I was once given a tip that if you are sending a birthday card, then it woudl be worth sending it in a brown, office style envelope as birthday cards are regularly targeted.2014 Target;
To overpay CC by £1,000.

The most you can claim is £32 but your auntie would have to claim as she paid for the postage, not sure if RM class gift vouchers as cash if they do they you wont get anything as it should have been sent special delivery0

You are correct, vouchers are not covered either standard post or recorded (which is only standard post with a signature).
All that is likely to happen is that they will apologise for damaging the card, and explain that in future the correct postal service should be used for insurance purposes.
I know a certain generation of people still like to send vouchers, but really you might want to drop a hint that a cheque might be safer in future.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Did you phone them this morning? If so what did you make out with them?
I wouldnt have thought that there will be much that can be done - they may give a book of stamps but I guess a lesson is to be learnt from this - dont send vouchers or anything worth anything in the post unless you use the correct method for the value of the contentsWeight Loss - 102lb0
