I have never made fudge! My Dad has been hinting for 2 years that he wants rum & raisin homemade fudge but i haven't ever gotten around to it!

Now you mention it I rather fancy rum and raisin fudge -

but I don't want to buy a bottle of rum to make it.

    I'm on this one now:

loving the two-tone effect and someone on netmums has recommended it. I'm definitely getting a sugar thermometer though, as I find fudge very hit and miss without it and I can't afford to waste the ingredients.
    I might also make these:

Are you hampering these up P? It feels a bit indulgent to make them just for us to indulge in. My MIL would very much appreciate a HM food hamper but that is all. Actually I could do one for FIL and his wife but only if we were visiting over Christmas.

Yes, last year I did hampers for all adult couples which was 9 altogether. My poor children got to eat very little of it, but requested some properly packaged bits and pieces such as snowman soup, peppermint creams and candied nuts for their stockings. we haven't discussed it but I'm presuming this means they don't actually believe in Santa!
I don't actually make any christmas goodies for us to eat over the xmas period because we're never at home.
  • Hello!

But I saw people on here mentioning creating their own hampers by getting a few bits each month in time for christmas, what exactly do you get? I mean LOL all I can think of is stuffing rofl.
could anyone give me some ideas as doing this will not only save time and money but will make it seem a real luxury!
look forward to getting to know everyone better

I know what you mean, I could only think of mince pies and xmas pud (which no one but me eats!) but then I got to thinking, maybe I should buy in things like favourite chocs (after 8's etc) those cappucino (sorry spelling) satchets, or hot chocolate, some tins - a hamper isn't a hamper without a tin of ye olde oak ham!! All joking aside, some tinned meat, biscuits for cheese? posh crisps or pringles and hide them really well?? I'm not sure really - defo a big tin of sweets, although I'm not sure which one it was last year but they had changed so much there was none that I liked, it was all toffees, orange and strawberry ones - really disappointed no coconut at all! Peanuts/nuts - I'm not sure as I also don't want to over buy which is another trick of mine - but I would like a tin of nice biscuits too.... hope this helps and isn't too confusing!

I have got a bit of a hamper for us going, there is just me and two tots although we will no doubt have lots of grandparents, hopefully to stay over. So far I've got:
Fox's party rings, my kids go wild for these
    Popcorn
    Baileys
    Pringles
    Chutney
    Nice crackers
    Chocolate
Some bits to make desserts; carnation caramel, boudoir fingers, jelly etc

Will also get haribo for the tots, and some pop, chocolate milk etc. Also some craft kits and baking mixes.

For us it's for the whole of Xmas week. And just our favourite treats. Mmm baileys....

  • Hi there.....been sneaky and reading this thread....very exciting..

Mummyroysof3 I would definatley NOTwait! bargains to be had from now so keep a secret box of gifts/food.

I have made a small start and got some small bits mainly smellies for girly neices....we have a combined total of 13 nephews and nieces.:eek:we always used to spend about £20 on each but since we had our own kids(x3) we have reduced it to £15 with full prices taken into account and me doing lots of bargain hunting! eg argos sale!

I have just been given some glass ramekins and was trying to think of something to do with these (to sell as well as give) any suggestions?
Trying to earn some pennies from crafting again this year!
