Sorry I didn't forget last weeks Christmas Stock Cupboard. I just didn't get anything. Except bread and milk I didn't do any food/toiletry shopping at all last week.Very MSE.0

Just popped in to say Hello, it has been very quiet on here lately. My cupboards are still full, so no shopping for me.
I don't even think I will need a lot for over Chistmas, so will be keeping my saving stamps for the new year .
Hope everyone is Ok. x0 -
Same here...just when you think that you have factored everything into your costs something else comes along such as...not being able to work out what your gas bill will be until the energy supplier works out what you should pay monthly and say they won't be deciding until they review in January(every six months)and they tell me I have £72 hanging over my head. But I am in credit as far as the electric goes...
Then there is the Insurance on the house due, not sure what I am insuring as most of what I have is years old and mostly second hand...the carpets have seen better days but why spend on new carpets when there is only me and if I have to downsize I have spent money that could be used elsewhere.
But I am so happy that I have my food store as it frees money to do other things...

Just popping in to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread.
Before reading this i didn't have a store cupboard.
Last week my fears came true that oh was made redundant from work (building industry, notoriously bad for finding new work at this time of year)
Now we have huge stores, both frozen meats/fish etc and a whole room with dried non perishable goods.
I can honestly say i haven't lost a nights sleep over this news, even with the prospect of him being out of work for months.
We have enough in the bank (saved hard the last couple of months) to cover the essentials for a while and enough food in to last us at least 5-6 months. As long as everyone is warm and fed we will be fine and it's thank's to this thread for opening my eyes any realizing i needed to be prepared xxI will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!
Total £560 -

I'm pleased for you that you don't have to worry - and I hope your DH gets work soon.
I 'liberated' another 60 litre storage box so now I can start filling another one with supplies. I know that we'll survive for a few months if our money dried up, and it's all thanks to the OS forum :T0 -
Since moving in with my bf I have noticed how much i appreciated the store-cupboards my mother and I had gradually accumulated at hers!
I always made sure there were some tins, pasta, rice, a couple of sauces and all possible baking supplies in and the deep freeze I filled with whoopsied meat or bits which were on offer as well as portions of home cooking although they are using it up quick as my brother has moved home and is job hunting and my dad was made redundant so is in the same position!...fast forward to living with the bf and I have to go out every week (done gradually over the week) and get everything we need in as he doesn't have 'stores' as such! There is much much less space in the cupboards here though so that is one reason but also he never saw the point when it was just him...I'm very gradually buying a couple of bits each week to try and build bits up as he is frequently away and when thats the case I only have the overpriced local shops!************************************

Heavenleigh,
Obviously I am unhappy that you are in the situation you are in but if you are able to cope because you have your food store and some savings that is fantastic!
I think I can cope because of my food store too, it has freed money that can go towards other things I hope, I found out that through phoning NPower again and savings made on the electric and because it is a duel fuel plan where I owed £72 on the gas and because I had credit on the electric bill and they usefd that credit towards my gas bill, I am only £16 over on the gas so I have paid it off now.
So it is a clean slate for the next bill...
Still won't stop me having cold feet and hands though:p
Speaking of food bargains or treats whilst I can I was in Aldi's and they had some luxury pat! and I have to admit I bought it but as it has a date until until december 2015 and that is a best before it can last even longer. I have treated myself whilst I can.
When would I ever buy pat! and especially what is classed as luxury pat!. I would not normally have duck, wild boar, pheasant or venison...Good to have some quakity amongst the basic, own brand stuff!"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Justamum,
I can feed myself but the worry will always be until things settle down the unknowns for all of us, the austere times we are in and the changes that are coming(I still don't think we are being told all that is going on)
Lushlifesaver,
Well done too...being single I could quite easily fall into a similar situation as your BF and stick to simple meals, not much stored(often simple meals are ok and perfectly good for you)but a varied diet and making the effort to do something a little special helps the body and soul and that is also true regarding building up a store of food and houshold goods.
What I need to do soon is rotation of stock so I use the older items first."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I do, but I know of people who don't have anything spare in the house, I could honestly live off mine for a while if something happened and no one was able to get out.
Mine consists of lots of baking ingredients, pasta, rice, dried soups and sauces, tins, bottled waters, lots of cordials etc, and when I tend to shop its a big one so im well stocked for months, Cant wait till next summer tho so I can get back into gardening and ill have a winter veg larder set up (well we shall see! )0 -

He used to live on chicken nuggets and chips! Now I have him on a healthy meal plan which his coaches (GB and local team) love and he even looks forward to meals like gammon with jacket potatoes and beans, cottage pie, chicken wrapped in bacon with veg, spag bol and even Sunday dinners (among others!) Trying to build up a stock of rice (have 4 meals worth atm), pasta (need a new big bag) and some dried soups. Also have a lot of meat in the freezer. Just need to get some tins in etc.
I've written a list of what I want and I'm sneaking it in gradually hehe************************************
