Who doesn't have a stock cupboard

tins of heinz soup were on offer, but since we had a rough patch we are running low on stocks again, do have some sauces and discovered frozen spinach, plus I've been making bread rolls (yeast eats lots of flour!) and milk is still cheap.
convenience and distance is def. a factor in stocking up for me. my mr A is now further away, Aldi closer, tesco/lidl about the same, but can't really do huge shops as I cycle (stuff gets heavy quickly)
oh has learned to properly cook rice and as milk is cheap the dried pasta packs with added pasta&veg make an pretty good meal for two
I haven't got much more space in my plastic baking box, otherwise I'd get more flour (52p in both Asda and Aldi for 1.5kg of either plain/selfr)
the other things I look out for now are branston beans - occassionally asda will do them for 4@£1 and they're nice
whats the view on BB dates of uht milk? with milk being less than £1 for 2L we tend to get fresh in often enough, the last carton I used on baking something and white sauce(s) as it was getting close to its BBE date but I'm not sure I should have the same approach with the current carton I have0 -
If uht gets close to its bb date I put it in the freezer so it keeps a little longer but mostly it gets used for rice pudding or custard.
lidl also do £1 Branston beans a few times a Year.0 -
I buy a lot of fresh fruit and veg but I am buying more frozen veg to save money. I have a stock cupboard but I want to expand on it as I often get caught out when it snows in the winter.
At the moment I have dried red lentils and tins of beans, spaghetti, soup, tomatoes and sweetcorn. I also have glass jars of pasta, porridge, rice, couscous, soya sausage mix and breadcrumbs as well as normal bits like herbs and spices, flour, baking soda, salt, pepper, olive oil, stock cubes, ketchup and soya sauce. I have peanut butter, Marmite and some soya custard too.
I'm going to try and add a couple of tins a week from my grocery shopping.:T0 -
I keep in oatcakes, crispbreads, cheese spread triangles that don't need fridging and individual portions of pate as well, if we do get stuck indoors due to the weather and run out of bread we can use these as a very acceptable substitute. By having things in individual servings I don't have to rely on being able to safely store a larger jar. All available from 99p/£1 shops too.0

I have always kept a stock cupboard out of habit however recently we have had to rely on the contents and it has been a real life line. Now I can really see the importance of stocking up.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

We have finally started our "larder" in the back bedroom. Cleared out a built in cupboard, in it so far we have:
10kg of Royal Canin Young Neutered Male cat food for "the boss"
42 rolls of Charmin loo roll (on offer in co-op)
4 bottles of shampoo
2 bottles of handwash
3 bottles of washing up liquid
2 packets of flour
My plan is too put UHT milk and all "just in case" foods in there, have invested in some big canisters with pour lids from Poundland to decant some big bags of pasta and rice into, be nice to free up space in the kitchen cupboards for the stuff we use every day, currently have to play rubiks cupboard on a regular basisCC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
OMG I went to check the price of the basic corned beef in Asda and Tesco and they have raised the price to £1.80 a tin, if I am going to pay that sort of money I would rather get Princes in Tesco or Farmfoods for £2 a tin it is £2.49 in AsdaBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

i know i remember the day corned beef was 39p a tin in mr t and thats not going back too many years ago well not like in the "olden days" when i was apparently born according to my ds aged 9!!!he thinks dinosaurs roamed the land then and we had no electric i was born 1972!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyway i always like to keep a few tins of cake in a tin (another one thats shot through the roof priceways) and always have the 6p custard in i like the thought of comfort food and i like the thought of me eating it!!also have the usual suspects in pasta ,lentils, tea and coffee all flours, yeast etc... tins of tuna, salmon tinned hotdogs son loves these cold, soup in a tin, beans spaghetti, and cereal ,all easy and quick. I also have toilet rolls, shampoo, shower gel deo etc as on 1 of the shtf posts someone said cleanliness is a big factor in morale lifting, all dog foods in abundance and lady items. dont forget stock cubes and packets of sauces they can make a simple meal a banquet. i have a few pks of those half baked rolls in also as they filling and dont use much energy. Now saying all this i do have a gas range connected to gas bottles outside house so i can actually make all the foods mentioned as i not connected to the mains so some items might not be suitable for if you have electric and it was turned off for a while hope this helps ............i have been rambling sorry xxxC.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

craigywv, I have a few years on you and my two think I came out of the ark :rotfl:
I had to go into Asda this morning for bits that I can't get in Aldi, Thankfully I don't have to go back in there until January now :jI noticed that the smart price flour has gone up from 52p to 60p, I checked when I got home and Tesco's has gone up to 60p as well, so I will grab a few bags from Aldi which is as far as I am aware is still 52p a bag. Lentils and dried beans have gone up as well so I am off to the Asian shop next week to get a few bags of different pulses and spices plus some ghee (I always try to have a couple of tins in the house for use it in cakes etc if I run out of butter)Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
