  • Dare I admit I have a years supply of teabags - not bought all at once - a few here a few there, we use about a box a week so buying 2 or 3 at a time its built up. Not spent a fortune, only Mr S basics which are nice and strong and were 27p but now 29p but from now on will just buy a box a week to try to keep at that level.

Now if only I had everything else in that quantity I would be happy.

Most things I do now have at least one extra but that is all but come winter I tend to be bad and hubby is not the happiest shopper so will only go on way home from work if he must, so easier to have this in than having to get firm with him. Means will be able to give him a list once every week or two to replace things than be using last one and him needing to make lots of trips there......so will have a happier hubby, much better for a peaceful life.

    Robinson's mincemeat is 20p a jar at Mr T's.

lol I know, I bought it when it was 30p! :D

I save saving stamps as well, although I do that for budgeting reasons, not especially Christmas, as my job will have ended by then. Its temporary and seasonal ;) and nothing to do with Santa :D

Sorry, I can't remember how to quote. I've seen tins of butter beans in some of the ethnic shops in Manchester--particularly in a shop in longsight. I don't remember how much they were, but I've been going back for tins of black beans as the supermarkets only seem to have the post epicure these days.

    Hi FairyPrincessk,

Yesterday I picked up 6 tins of Epicure Organic Butter Beans from Mr S RTC at 25p from 99p. I've seen these at a couple of stores so it might be nationwide. I love butter beans - makes me think of lovely holidays in Greece and Cyprus!

    HTH :)
Sometimes, I can't see the wood for the trees - or the couscous for the quinoa... 3 no spends so far for August 2011!

I have a terrifying storecupboard. It's the middle of 3 corner units stacked on top of one another in the corner of the kitchen. It is huge. The top unit has Pyrex and ceramic and sooo many plastic containers. The bottom unit has pans and trays etc. and the middle - well the space is large. Tinned tomatoes, kidney beans, chick peas, condensed milk, tinned fish of several sorts, value tortilla chips, tortillas, cereal and I store the potatoes in there. Then I have 3 cupboards with sauces (like soy) herbs, spices and garlic puree, flour, custard powder, dried milk, sugar, dried pulses, honey and onward it goes... I really need to get a grip. I could survive a relatively protracted war. I think it stems from when I was a (very) poor student when I had to make pancakes for a week as that was all I could afford. I was creative with them and made food for others if they brought stuff over but it was a rough time. Now I just seem to be planning to never be hungry again. At least if one of us is ill then I can survive for a while eh? Did I mention the Christmas Pudding or the 6 jars of Tahini?

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

Thanks On My Own think I'll follow your lead and try it that way round this year then the shop can be just goodies for Christmas. I do save tesco stamps, club card points and nectar points for the festive season and have made a good start on my pressies but one or to extra essentials would mean less sensible buys in December.

Odd that your post was moved I would have thought a Christmas store cupboard would have enough interest to have its own thread:-)
    The secret of Christmas
It's not the things you do at Christmastime
But the Christmas things you do
    All year through

  • I still have two Christmas puds plus 3 jars of mincemeat from last year so they will definitely be used soon, forgot about them although I see them there on the shelf at front of pud stuff as to be used first, but its a case of so used to to them I don't 'see them any more. Oh yes and a brandy butter with use by date of May 2013. Actually have a box of crackers as forgot to put them out on Boxing Day so that is part of Christmas stuff already in:)

So long as you rotate and are happy with the food you have why worry.

  • I have a massive store cupboard. I like to stockpile things that we use that are on special offer, so that i dont have to buy them until they are on special again, like the cushelle toilet rolls at Morrisons, the Tesco 4p peas, the 20p mincemeat, to name but a few. I dont do it for survival purposes, but bargain shopping. I dont spend much on shopping anymore, because i have such a great stock.
